Continuous evolution means slow steady progress. Overall the expectation is to play better than last season (we are doing) and being better off points and position wise at the end of the season. Some results will be better than expected, some will have a few hiccups.
What continuous evolution does not mean is fans spitting their collective dummys out because we didnt win away at the 9th placed team. Or getting on the teams back if we are not comfortably beating Luton at half time.

As usual an exaggeration why can't we keep it real?
You might well be happy with a 0-0 draw at a completely depleted Crystal Palace no matter what their league position is and how you dress it up and also not taking points in two of our next few games against Aston Villa and West Ham that is your choice.
Settle for mediocrity if you want but some of us fans and especially our owner are more ambitious and more driven thank God.

I completely agree with the above and our fans level of expectation is a problem.
A comfortable draw away at Palace is a good result of you get 3 points against either Burnley or Brentford. But when you fail to create in all 3 there's a concerning pattern.
Continuous evolution is not changing a winning side and giving 4/5 full debuts against a team with no points. That was the mistake in all of this. Without that mistake everything else is ok.

This is who has started all 8 games for palace so far this season:
Johnstone, Mitchell, Andersen, schlupp, Ayew.
This is who has started 7 games for palace so far this season:
Ward, Guehi, Doucoure, Eze, Edouard.
Out of those ten a Rb, Dm and an Am/Fwd didn’t play.
The replacement RB Clynne is one year younger then ward and although it was his first game, having been on the bench so far, he started 22 games for palace last season.
The two midfielders i mentioned in earlier posts; Hughes has started 6 games this season, Riedewald 2.
And Mateta has also started 6 games this season.
Eze only has 1 goal contribution this season
With the main body of their squad (those that have started 6-8 games) they won 3 drawn 3 and lost 2, scored 7 and conceded 7
We have won 2 drawn 3 lost 3, scored 8 conceded 10…
Not really buying this depleted malarkey I’m afraid, I think both teams were pretty even on paper and maybe with luck on our side we’d won. But who knows

I think if Palace put that side out every week what they had out against us then they would be bottom four this season.
Luckily for them they have nine first team regulars to welcome back into their team so they will probably be mid table come May.
We played them at a really good time but we failed to take advantage.

This terrible depleted Palace side has conceded only 7 goals all season. Thats the 3rd fewest in the league, only one more than Man City and Arsenal for context.
In their previous 2 games 10th place Man Utd and 12th place Fulham also failed to score against Palace.
Vs Forest, Palace played 3 out of 4 of the same defence and the same excellent goalkeeper as the previous games.
Forest created significantly more chances than Palace 16 shots vs 8, 5 on target vs 2. XG of 1.22 vs 0.9
The previous home opponents Fulham managed 10 shots and an XG of only 0.5.
I agree Palace would struggle with that line up because they simply wouldn’t score enough. They didn’t against us and created very little but it should be no surprise that we found it tough to score agains them.
Forests defence did their job, something they were unable to do last season. The midfield kept the ball, something they were unable to do last season either.
We miss our top goalscorer and the £45m striker we have just sold. It shouldn’t be a surprise that we aren’t hitting the net. If we weren’t making chances you would be right to criticise but we are doing.

The fans level of expectation that we can completely change the style of play with no pre season and comfortably beat teams who have long term premier league stability. We should have played Burnley with a low block and picked them out. Eased into a more attractive style over a longer period of time. That's what a mean by expectations. Id take wins over style any day.

We like my one hour drives out of Athens on a Sunday for a coastal walk and a bit of snap but 4pm kick off (Greek time) really f***s that up.
