Indeed some selections are baffling.
Some tactics are baffling too.
Who thought it was a good idea not to get tight on Partey and to give him the freedom of the park to do whatever he wants?
It was exactly the same with Maddison at Leicester, someone thought it was a good idea to give him the freedom of the park too.
The word naive comes to mind.

Agree that for whatever reason the spirit that we showed vs Liverpool seemed to vanish without trace yesterday and that’s difficult to explain other than to say the early goal in both halves did for us.
But why should Cooper have changed a winning team or gone in with different tactics? You would have slaughtered him had he done so.
I dont agree with JWJW that we were in some way lucky vs Liverpool, we were worthy winners and the better team in many aspects which is why Arsenal was so disappointing.
However Liverpool were very poor and Arsenal were very good and I suspect there in lies the difference.

Team selection was right Salv. It didnt need changing. I dont know why Williams was dropped in favour of Lodi, i would've kept the same 11 myself. You're right, we had a bit of luck v Liverpool but were worthy winners I agree. So all that makes the 2nd half capitulation difficult to explain. It was back to how we were a few weeks ago but difference is now we have no attacking ambition either. Look at the players in our side: Hendo, McKenna, Lodi, Williams, BJ, Freuler, Lingard. All internationals. Then add in former internationals Aurier and Kouyate who have played at a high level in the game. The sum of all of those is better than what we're seeing on the pitch.

If you didn't see it Wassy you won't have realised how poor it was in the 2nd half and (despite the respectable scoreline) some of the first. It's the performance (and yet again) the lack of progress in performance, that's being lamented here. I agree, an away defeat to Arsenal is no shame but we really took a step backwards yesterday, which is incredibly disappointing after some improved displays of late. The frustrating thing for me is that I do think we have the talent in the side to actually play a bit. We showed the odd glimpse but it was only one or two situations in the entire game and when you look like conceding to the opposition at almost every attack then it appears that the players are playing as if it's hopeless.

It's not the fact that we lost Wassy but how we lost.

If we were going to get rid then it should have happened post the Leicester game, if not before.
Since then we have taken a credible five points from five games.
We now have an incredibly tough run of three home matches including the cup game against Spuds and I would be surprised if we get more than two points from those games.
Surely the purpose of retaining him post-Leicester was to give him a second pre-season during the World Cup break. From a personal perspective I don't buy into this "gelling 20 strangers" myth that's being perpetuated, results and performances breed confidence and understanding, it's as simple as that.
I am pretty sure that at the end of the season we will look back at the three matches against Bournemouth, Fulham and Leicester and realise how big an opportunity was missed in collecting 0 from 9.

F#(King NFL needs to F@(k off back to the USA where it belongs. Bad enough having to drive back having been spanked but the traffic chaos it caused and fat f@(ks in their stupid shirts causing huge queues at services talking absolute sh1te about Offence and deeeefence.....that aside I'd probably take in a game....if I was on holiday in America-where it belongs.

Myth? It's based on simple statistics that most times teams have that much turnover they struggle. Particularly when the standard of player being brought in is at best around the same level as the teams around them.

OK I suppose my point was more that, if we're gonna have a bad game, may as well do it vs top away. If we're gonna be up and down I'd rather be terrible arsenal and then good against Brentford than good v Arsenal, still lose then also not good v Brentford.

You'd best get used to it as it seems likely that they'll create a UK based franchise at some point! It's fine just avoid London on matchdays, not much risk of there being an NFL franchise in Nottingham anytime soon! :giggle:
