RE: Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira - zicorice - 11-05-2023

On first viewing Danilo clearly had the tools to be a very good player, obviously and not surprisingly he didn't quite settle to the pace and unforgiving nature of the league. (Was it ManU when he dawdled on the ball and cost us?). But the more he's settling in the better he looks. Seen some interesting comparisons (Keane and Cohen) but I think he's different to anything we've had.

I'm going to say he's a bit of a hybrid potentially of one of our all time greats and one of our all time greats' sons.
Neil Webb (box to box, scoring, passing ability and almost telepathic understanding eith another forward player. But also Scott Gemmill. (Diminutive, great technical ability also knew where goal was)

Both had excellent timing and finishing ability.

If Danilo can be as good as Scotty and nearly as good as Webby we've potentially got a top player on our hands.

NB. Youngsters probably don't appreciate how good Webby was as we all mostly reminisce about our great European sides, but many people would have him in the starting line up of our all time great XI. But in his second spell, post cruciate and shall we say nowhere near as dynamic, his legacy was tarnished for a while. Still the best midfielder I've seen play for Forest though.

Zico, you make valid points about Webb and Gemmill jnr. Now if Danillo could be a hybrid version of both, we would have some player.

RE: Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira - tugger2018 - 11-05-2023

One of my first memories of us signing Danilo was a photo someone posted showing him coming out of a local supermarket with 2 arms full of tubes of Pringles I am sure somebody has had a word and now he has knuckled down and eats healthy Greek food hence the improvement in performances

Thanks. Just feel Webby deserves alot more credit than he gets following his departure (the fat wallet stuff perpetuated by The Brian fanzine at the time didn't help), plus his less than sparkling return as a much lesser player.  Similar circumstances as Robbo in a way.

RE: Danilo dos Santos de Oliveira - DR Forest - 11-05-2023

I’d liken him to more of a highbrid of Webb’s guile and Keane’s running.

Or gemmill snr and O’Neill for us older patrons (with yates being like bowyer alongside to complete the picture!)

Sniff any idea if we will go back for the other Brazilian kid?
I can’t even remember his name I’m so old…

I remember us signing Webb initially and there was plenty of noise about it. Danillo is far more under the radar but if he has a similar impact, we are onto a very good thing. Remember Webb scoring consecutive hat-tricks against Villa and Chelsea ( we scored 6 in both games)

Not a bad choice that!! We were 2 -1 down as well.

Pretty sure Webby and Birtles both got a double after the hatricks against Chelsea.

Would be nice if Danillo could score a hat-trick tomorrow...

That Chelsea game was my first away game.

I was there too with my college flat mate who was a Chelsea fan.
Took me to a boozer afterwards and their keeper was in. We left after he pushed a female through the glass window of the pub… Tony Coton was it? Memory’s going…
