Brennan probably a better finisher but Elanga's crossing, and ability to pick out a cross is much better. And he doesn't go missing like Brennam did in away games (more to do with Cooper that rather than Brennan). If Spurs had the choice right now, I'm certain they choose to keep Brennan over Elanga. Elanga is playing in a more attacking team with a worse defence and a better midfield so you'd expect more opportunities. At best you could say they're evenly matched. The idea that Elanga has made back the 40m difference in price tag in half a season to a point where he's now "easily" better is just realistic. That said I enjoy the debate and hope Elanga continues on from his good first half a season. We've also given far less big chances away. Not sure how you get to that conclusion. As for the price tags, Brennan's fee was largely based on potential. We got Elanga for a modest fee because he's been rejected by a top 6 side, not going into one. And Elanga did well under Cooper's negative football too so I dont accept your point there. I honestly believe we swopped one player for a better one and had 25m quid stuffed in our back pocket. I'm referring to the post Jan defence with Lodi, Aurier, Felipe. Do you really believe the current crop is better? I believe our improvement this season in goals conceded compared to the 2nd half of last year is due to the midfield which was clearly a massive weakness last season. Dominguez, Mangala/Yates 2nd season improvements. OK that bit was tongue in cheek but there's a reason Elanga didn't get close at Utd (although they haven't exactly been the best environment for attackers of late). I believe Brennan would've really excelled this season with the significant improvements in midfield that we lacked last year. That's fine we can agree to disagree. We'll have another look at the end of the year and see if the opinions have changed. RE: Current Players Thread - stefanduma - 04-02-2024 Some people just like to moan and bash, it's a British thing. There's a huge difference between a discussion with a negative opinion and just someone saying the team is shit. RE: Current Players Thread - Paplane - 04-02-2024 Awoniyi, MGW, Elanga, CHO all should sit Wednesday's game out. Maybe even Yates too. They're far too precious to risk. RE: Current Players Thread - wassy04 - 04-02-2024 So we're effectively 17th at this stage of the season (when you remove Everton points penalty) Pretty much same position as where we finished last year in a league generally considered weaker by most compared to last season. If based on the above discussion, our defence isn't worse, our attack is as good and we all.agree our midfield is better. Why are we 17th? Have we been more unlucky (or less lucky)? Is the dodgy keeper situation really all that's stopped us being higher up the league? I feel like last year we had worse luck with injuries generally with a squad with less depth. Have we just been found out a bit? Is it just negative variance? Again, not being negative but I'd of thought a supposed better team would've been doing better than last year. Just interested to know what others thought? RE: Current Players Thread - wassy04 - 04-02-2024 (04-02-2024, 08:15 PM)Paplane Wrote: Awoniyi, MGW, Elanga, CHO all should sit Wednesday's game out. RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 04-02-2024 If we leave all the above out on Wednesday I would make Brizzle big favourites. Agree Taiwo played 90 which is unusual for him, no chance he gets the full game midweek. |
