RE: Stevie Cooper - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 04-10-2022 No surprise that. He was offered the contract in July and it's now October. There was plenty of time to sign it. RE: Stevie Cooper - Marinakis Red - 04-10-2022 (04-10-2022, 09:17 AM)Sniffer Dog (Admin) Wrote: In a way Cooper is a victim of his own success. That is down to the previous mistakes made by the current ownership that after 3 and a half years we were not in a better position when he walked in to the club. RE: Stevie Cooper - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 05-10-2022 Not saying this is going to happen but just for discussion sake... How would you feel if Steve stayed on and got more responsibility and became more of a manager instead of head coach and had control over transfers etc and Dane and the recruitment team were all dismissed. I know Cooper's contract is in the bin but could a new one be drawn up that reflects his change in status? Just for discussion would you be happy and take it? RE: Stevie Cooper - Paplane - 05-10-2022 (05-10-2022, 08:15 AM)Sniffer Dog (Admin) Wrote: Not saying this is going to happen but just for discussion sake... I said yesterday I'd take that. Something needs to change. RE: Stevie Cooper - Salvatore Matrecano - 05-10-2022 Short answer is yes. Longer answer more nuanced. Majority of clubs now have head coach system, makes far more sense with regard continuity and consistent recruitment/planning. This however is where we havent seen the model through properly in my opinion. We needed one person to take charge and ownership of recruitment. Who was that? Should have been Murphy. For whatever reason be that poor performance or personal choice he was tasked with making the club PL ready. But the biggest change in terms of outlay and therefore welfare of the club was recruitment so the CEO should have taken charge. The fact he didnt shows a weakness. It seems clear to me and from many neutral write ups I have read that there was a shift in our recruitment plans sometime in the summer. We started off with those clearly identified by Syrianos, Awoniyi and Mangala, young up and coming players like OBrien. But suddenly we went for more experienced Lingard, Kouyate Freuler even Dennis. We went to a more agent based model, suddenly Mendes was back on the scene resulting in Lodi and I think a few more. Was it the same person making these decisions or was someone else? It was either muddled thinking or more than one person was having the final say. Whatever it was the result was a few too many incomings, an odd combination of styles and a few that it seems obvious that Cooper isnt keen on. So the longer answer is I dont care if its Cooper or someone else but we need one person in charge. I will end on the main reason we went for Cooper to begin with. It was because we had wasted so much money down the years and EM wanted someone to develop youth and build a team. I strongly suggest we continue that strategy. In theory that sounds good, but we've lost five matches on the trot. The last three to teams that - if we want to be staying up - we should be taking points off. What happens if we lose the next five? Does EM hold his nerve and say 'Whatever happens, Cooper is here for the long-term. Even if we get relegated.' Not saying that can't happen but all the evidence we've seen of EM suggests it's not likely. I'm not sure after really wanting Neco and paying so much for MGW it may not be wise? RE: Stevie Cooper - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 05-10-2022 (05-10-2022, 08:43 AM)BadDog Wrote:(05-10-2022, 08:15 AM)Sniffer Dog (Admin) Wrote: Not saying this is going to happen but just for discussion sake... It's a very good point you make there BD. Some at the club wanted Aouar on a free from Lyon but they backed Cooper instead with a possible 40M for MGW. You won't hear many people mention that though. SM good post too mate you made before BD's post. RE: Stevie Cooper - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 05-10-2022 SM just for the record Mendes is NOT Lodi's agent. Lodi belongs to the Italian Giuliano Bertolucci. RE: Stevie Cooper - ozzyten10 - 05-10-2022 It’s just a shame isn’t it. Owner had ambitions and backed these with huge investment. The coach had worked a miracle to get us to the promised land. The recruitment team were lauded at the time of signing for the capture of a diverse array of talent. We started well enough. Home win and away draw in first three games against established prem sides. Then Spurs and Man City losses - expected but decent showing against Spurs and what can you do against Coty and Robo cop? Then panic - team changes and terrible patches of games where we implode- the last 3 matches against teams struggling or direct rivals. Cooper looked exasperated on Monday. He looked very angry - in particular at Kouyate I think who seemed to lack discipline needed at 1-0. We are getting goals against that normally are very low xg. Keeper? But we lack any form of shape or compact defensive unit. We lack pace / strength down the sides. Can he get it right? Can anyone with this squad? RE: Stevie Cooper - JollyLolly - 05-10-2022 Ozzy I think a good coach can get this right with the players at the club, its the constant pressure applied by many factions from owners, fans, media and the like that make this task difficult for most. It is hard to take all this after the euphoria of the previous 3 months but patience must be a requirement to all, if we go down we would still have the best coach in the Championship with the strongest squad, equals instant return and a good watch for us fans next season!!!! RE: Stevie Cooper - ozzyten10 - 05-10-2022 I’m with you Lolley and now is the time for patience - but someone made the decision to blow money at it in an extr ordinary way and the crying shame is we look worse for it. I really feel for cooper. |
