Nathan Jones - I like him, failed at Stoke but wrong club.  Also brings Paul Hart and Chris Cohen with him...

Interesting Sniff. It's a very demanding way of playing and if you don't have the right players or you are not able to get them onboard then you will fail.

Valerien Ismael has lifted the lid on his plan to guide West Bromwich Albion to promotion this term.

The Frenchman enjoyed a wonderful first season in English football after taking charge of Barnsley where he led the club to a surprise spot in the Championship play-offs.

Since then Ismael has left Oakwell and moved to the Hawthorns where expectations will be significantly higher as they target an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last term.

Ismael’s tactical approach is a notable aspect of his early success in the EFL and, speaking to The Telegraph, the new West Brom boss has given an insight into how his team will function.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Ismael said: “We play 3-4-3 and all the players – the three centre-halves, wing-backs, the No. 6 and front-three – need to hit numbers to make sure we have that intensity.

“The numbers will be total distance, high-speed and sprinting. After that you have another measure which is the player load.
“When I choose a player he must not drop below the average line. If they do, the question is are they injured or unfit, or do we need another one.
“This is my way to success and the good thing with the data is that you don’t need finance, or an agent telling you things, it’s about finding the right player for the position.”

Laudable abc from Ishmael.  But as Sniff' notes, there would have been a melt down had he been appointed here.  It's easy to be coveting after the fact.  He talks of intensity.  'The Holy Grail.'  It won't be along before other teams catch up with that as they eventually caught up with Clough's methods.  Also note: very easy to apply that to a club that does have resources for have been doing things 'that way' for a while because it was pragmatic.  Forest are neither WBA or Barnsley.  They're stuck in between.  Not a shoe string club nor have they Premiership riches.  So having a 'smart' CEO makes sense.  But it's going to be a painful transition, regardless.  We can forget about top 6 this season.

3-4-3.  Forest care barely field a formation they've been playing since Aitor left.

You still need quality recruitment.  And he noted that you're talking about high octane and volume fitness and asks the question: are they injured or unfit or do we need another player.  (All three questions apply to the current developmental & recruitment 'transition' - some may use the word 'crisis' after the latest defeat.)

We may be moving to a younger player developmental model.  And longer term (if we stick with the current plan) we'll need appointments to reflect that.

If we were doing things on a budget, the club should have been honest about that.  Sounds like we're going back to Mark Warburton, time to build etc.  Luton have got the progressive shoe string approach going with Nathan, Cohen and Hart?  We had Hart.  We couldn't back him when he needed it.  Not all the managers have been great.  But we have had good managers, some excellent ones and Forest have a history of pulling the rug.

Would be my choice by a country mile.

Our biggest mistake was not changing manager in the summer when we could have tempted him with talk of big ambitions and a pocket load of cash.
Zero chance now, having made the (wrong) decision to keep Hughton we will again look ridiculous by changing manager a few weeks in. The caveat is any new manager would have been under horrendous pressure already assuming the recruitment  would have been the same.
