You have gone full circle Wassy last year you were so positive and this season you are the opposite.

We have spent a fortune again and assembled a very good squad so why shouldn't we expect to take points from Villa and West Ham? This mentality needs to change.

EM will expect points and rightly so.

Ha we needed the positivity last year to keep people going! This year its keeping expectations down as we were lucky to stay up last year. The league is clearly easier but lets not pretend we're a markedly better team.

Keeper - worse
Defence - started worse due to injury, maybe the same once we've got everyone fit.
Midfield - much improved
Attack - worse and now Taiwo is injured.

I don't see enough to expect a dramatic improvement to the point that we're suddenly top half. Fwiw though I was talking in general, I would always hope/expect points at home and we've been very competitive away this year. Based on the way it's gone so far, aside from Liverpool, all 4 games will be close, I think we're due to edge another 1-0 in our favour.

I get the point you are making, I think some have got far too carried away with the summer recruitment, by that I mean individually not collectively. Midfield apart I agree we aren’t a stronger team on paper.
I see no evidence Turner or Vlach is better than Navas or Hendo
Aina is very good but no better than Lodi.
CB we have 2 youngsters, one may well be outstanding in the long term but we miss Felipe
Strikers, you are fooling yourself if you don’t think we miss a £45m forward.

However…
Midfield was always our weakest point and in my opinion where we lost games and it looks far far stronger.
The squad as a whole continues to develop and improve as is born out in our play.
We have far more strength in depth, it is now a 16 man game.

So yes we should expect to pick a minimum 1 point and maybe 3-4 points from Villa/WHam

Don't think EM will be very impressed.

The whole club and fans need to start believing if we want to progress up the PL.

Mine is more to where the goals are coming from without taiwo, he got a third of our goals last season.

RE: Next Few Games - Fumanchew - 10-10-2023

Players missing this international break

Hennessey, Williams, Elanga, Mangala, Vlachodimos, Omobamidele, McKenna, Turner, Montiel, Wood, Boly, Aurier, Sangare, Niakhate, Kouyate

5-6 starters some will be back 17th October I wonder what Steve can work on whilst the players are away maybe it is at least favourable that the first game back is Luton

Hopefully those injured will be doing lots of work studying how cooper wants us to play, lots of film and sims etc

RE: Next Few Games - Trailer Park Tom - 10-10-2023

Does anyone know if Dominguez can play 10?

RE: Next Few Games - ozzyten10 - 10-10-2023

I think a positive GD is a realistic aim for the season. That will put us in the middle of the league. We do look much better but goals seem to have dried up somewhat. We have been pretty decent defensively all year. Midfield looks better and having more control in matches with more of the ball. That said 4-1 v palace could have been a reality with a bit more luck. Murillo, montiel, MGW and 2-3 other half chances. Sam Johnson actually played a blinder when re watching the game.

Luton (H)
Liverpool (A)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)

4 points minimum, 6 good, 7 excellent.

I think we should be setting our sights on 5-7 points.

Not saying we will get them but in my view that is what we should be realistically aiming for.

Fail to win v Luton and we're bang in trouble i fear.

There is an argument to say we've under performed this season. Eg, should have won at Old Trafford after our start, should've beaten struggling Burnley, we only scraped the win v Sheffield and we should've beaten Palace easily. I dont necessarily subscribe to that view but fail to beat Luton and the season might take a negative turn.

We also beat Chelsea unexpectedly, can't exclude that one.

Not sure where this narrative that we should've easily beaten Palace is coming from though? They were at home, above us in the league and we have a load of big injuries?

The game was there for the taking though Wassy.

I am 100% sure Steve was disappointed to come away with just a point.

I would imagine Palace were saying the same thing too. It was disappointing we didn't take the chances of course but I think they'll be overall happy with how we did.

It was a good point at a tough place to play without our only real goal threat currently and a number of other key players.

You really have gone full circle Wassy.

Have you been hacked?

What for not expecting to win away from home against midtable opposition?

Not sure why there is a sudden expectation that we would be expected to win such a game? We played well to an extent, without really dominating but we did have the best chances largely due to Murillo's long run and glory ball to MGW. Didn't create much else but limited them to one decent chance which was put wide. Disappointing we missed those two chances but also they missed one, seems like a good away point.

I'm not criticising the team at all, just not writing off established premier league teams.

That said I do worry where the goas will come from without Taiwo and Brennan right now (and Danilo).
