Greece 3-0 down to Netherlands at half time. Nothing Vlachodimos could do about any of them though and but for a brilliant save from him it'd be four.

RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 07-09-2023

There is some proper bollocks being talked on twitter x thing at the moment, another one tonight about the squad being good enough for a top 6 place.

Some people need a reality check, I get that we have improved the squad but all it means is that on paper we no longer look the weakest team in the league. Lets see where we get to, personally I will take just not being involved in the relegation battle in the final run in. It would be nice if our new look midfield could occasionally get more than 30% possession, but Im not expecting us to play any team off the park. We could do without stupid pressure, Im sure it wont be long until we see “ a better manager would get this team into Europe”.

That was a truly world class save.

Before that he also came far off his line to make a great claim too.

Also his kicking found a Blue shirt every time.

I am telling you he is better than Turner.

Nothing wrong with the club aiming high, we should do so. It’s when that becomes an expectation we have a problem.

Is he highly thought of in Greece Sniff? Is he generally seen as a top class international keeper or is it more a bit of patriotism backing whoever wears the shirt?

Regardless if he is better than Turner I hope at least he is good enough to provide genuine competition for the first team spot.

Very much so SM.

My best man here in Greece used to be a goalkeeper (his son is my reporter/source).

He raves about Vlachodimos as do many others I know.

Take things with a pinch of salt but this article claims that we currently have 3 players (MGW, Danillo and Sangare) who are now valued at the same as Brennan. It is also says that Taiwo and Elanga are not far short of that valuation. My point is we may have sacrificed Brennan to strengthen the playing side of the team but also (if you believe what is written), the financial asset side of things. Further evidence of a progressive club?

I think we have levelled out with the likes of Fulham, Palace, West Ham, Brentford, these are the teams we need to compete with as it stands with our current squad, then grow again. So 10th to 12th should be what we are looking at.

If everyone stays fit then I think that's an achievable target although I wouldn't consider it a failure if we didn't get there.

I think we'd have finished around 12-14th last year if we'd had better injury luck.

RE: Current Players Thread - Reds73 - 08-09-2023

Yeh I think we have a starting X1 and squad comparable to the likes of Palace, Brentford, Fulham and West Ham.

The following step needs us to then match Villa, Brighton etc
