Surely Garner will be very near to the top of the list in his position - if another loan can be negotiated

He may be on the list, he may not, I really don't know, it depends what CH is planning, he may prefer to buy a DM, & target loans in other positions, for example.

If we do decide to loan a DM then you have to ask what style, type, age etc. he'd be looking at & if Garner fits that profile then he may well get on the list, but as you say, CH will have a list of preferences / alternatives for every position he is trying to fill & so even if Utd are interested in a repeat (& the usual process is to move a player up each window, not stay where they are) then he'll probably only be one of a few options, & as to whether he's the best depends on who the other options are.

Garner is the only loanee I would definitely want back. I don't think Knockeart offers any more than a Lolley on form, which he was just starting to show again. The on-going problem that he has was not helped by the shortened pre-season and not getting his fitness back quick enough. With a decent break this time and getting a good pre-season, he could be back to his best. Krovinovic is OK but I don't rate him much better than Carvalho and Freeman has done nothing. Christy is an OK RB and if wages not too high as good as we could get for that position.
As we are all aware a strong fast striker is a must, and a decent back up for him.

I'm hoping that Lolley's knock turn into a blessing in disguise, that we get safe early, & can therefore us the rest of the season to get him in the best shape possible, rather than having to worry about other things, so we can have him flying from the off next year.

I thought the same. This season is probably done for him now and that might be a blessing in disguise. He might be bang on it again in August.

Really? How many of our current contracted players do you think would get into the other top 6 sides?

Worrall plus McKenna if he was able to stay fit?

What I meant was that Chris has probably already started on deals to get Christie, Garner and Krovinovic back. Add those 3 to the likes of Samba, Worrall, Mckenna, Lolley, Johnson and there is the makings of a good side with a handful of additions. I didn't mention the prospect of Ameobi signing a new deal either or young Mighten and Yates. I know some like to be dramatic which is up to them but I see things a bit differently and a little less dramatic.

Not necessarily trying to be dramatic, depends what you want out of next season I guess.

Same logic applies, only Worrall and a fit Mckenna would get in other top 6 sides. So there's a lot of work to do to compete. Not sure its fair to not include deals for existing players as work.

Think its going to be a tough summer personally and I suspect there will be plenty of disagreements. Plus anger if/when Worrall goes.

Now is a terrific opportunity to really build for next season, the pressure, ie expectations are gone now but enough concern to engineer genuine improvement in performances.

Start scoring goals and winning games now will make pre season and the start to next season so much easier

I'm in head on disagreement with CH now, he wants consistent even performances, i'm leaning more towards mediocrity but with moments of class, energy, belief and overloads

Regardless, he ain't trying anything new, same set up, same game really and to be honest Reading and others could of totally destroyed us in the latter stages of games

I'm feeling the 10 wins and 29 goals don't tell the full story of how beatable we really are, we got worked out last season, this run in could be even more humiliating the way things are, sameness, everyone chasing all over the place but generally lacking belief and the unforced errors

We are particularly awful chasing games and in the extremely rare circumstances we are ahead actually finishing teams off, mediocre really

I'm guessing Soh, Blackett, Mighten, Yates are all gagging to play, so play them, get them involved, first 45 minutes, get a good tune out of these and bring our better offensive players on 2nd half, it ain't f***g rocket science, it's what a manager should be doing NOW

We still need 10 points to be safe, 15 to be completely sure. It’s no time to experiment yet.

We were counting our chickens when we only needed 4 points from the last 6 games at the end of last season. Let’s not make a similar mistake this time.

I understand what you are saying Sabri.

However I would argue that bringing in Soh for Figs or Mighten for Lolley or Blackett for Bong doesn't really weaken the team in any way.

Not sure we going to need that many points.

But agree that to tinker with the team now is still 4 or 5 games too soon.

I did the number crunching at the week end and reached the conclusion that 48 points will be sufficient for survival.

I appreciate that is only indicative but what it did highlight is the fact that all of the teams, with the exception of Coventry, have to play three or four games against the top 6 or 7 clubs and then games against the bottom 6 or 7 Clubs.

The games against the bottom teams are the key ones as both teams cannot go away with the points.

I make Wycombe getting somewhere in the region of 36 points, so they are down, as are Wednesday with around 43; the dogfight will be between Rotherham and Birmingham who I predict will get 47 and that is being generous.

All of the Clubs have that nasty run of games that we are going through at the moment, which levels things up nicely

Exactly, get the points and then give the likes of Soh and Mighten an extended run out

I did the same calculation JCK and reckon the most Birmingham will get is 45 points. That was with Karanka in charge though but I cant see Lee Bowyer getting much more out of a poor squad.
2 more wins will do it for us.
