I think we will get 5 from this 12, basing this mainly on that taiwo will be missing for at least 2 of those.

Cooper said a month for Taiwo didn't he?
Given the fact they kept it quiet for a week, then we have 2 weeks break, and factoring Cooper's injury 'timescales', I reckon he will be on the bench for Luton and a starter at Anfield.
Unless he's related to Richards, of course.

Ps I think 4 points would be a good haul, with 3 from the Luton game. Any more and its a bonus.

Last season I would have agreed with that.

However this season with the squad we have assembled we really should be aiming higher.

It's not just the players who need to believe more it's also the fans.

I hope I am wrong here but I'm actually worried we'll draw with luton. We desperately need to find a way of creating chances. 4 points from these games would be a very good return. Villa and West ham very strong right now.

If my maths are correct 4 points from the next four games would give us a total of 7 points from the 24 points that were/are available.

Don't think EM will be very impressed.

The whole club and fans need to start believing if we want to progress up the PL.

I'm not sure blind belief is going to suddenly improve the team. In fact I'd say the opposite is going to be important this year, we need the fans to stay grounded and not believe otherwise they will start to get on the players backs in situations where it is not justified.

I also worry where the goals are coming from? We either need to start scoring from set pieces or we need one of Elanga and CHO to step up, along with Wood if we can create some actual chances for him. Or MGW needs to turn his opportunities into more goals created or scored, he was the dominant player against Palace if he could've converted that into more.

RE: Next Few Games - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 10-10-2023

Why is it blind belief to expect some points from games against Aston Villa and West Ham?

You have gone full circle Wassy last year you were so positive and this season you are the opposite.

We have spent a fortune again and assembled a very good squad so why shouldn't we expect to take points from Villa and West Ham? This mentality needs to change.

EM will expect points and rightly so.

RE: Next Few Games - optimistic_red - 10-10-2023

We will get better as the season goes on.
Once the squad "click" the goals will come.

For example Toffolo crossed to back post but Wood had beaten his man to near post. More understanding between the players and its a goal.

I believe the team selection and formation will start to settle and the results will improve.

RE: Next Few Games - JoeWorrallsBrain - 10-10-2023

I'm feeling pessimistic. I'm not seeing any evidence yet that selling Johnson and then spending that cash on recent signings has made us a better team. What I've seen thus far, is Awoniyi has been more isolated and less effective, and we have only moved our possession a few miserable percentage points higher, to not much effect.

Many games left for me to see the great wisdom in this decision. I'll be happy to be proven wrong. Right now, I'd predict we end up with 41 points (which proabably is just enough to stay up again, given how bad the bottom 3 are). I predict 3 points from the next 4 games.

Ha we needed the positivity last year to keep people going! This year its keeping expectations down as we were lucky to stay up last year. The league is clearly easier but lets not pretend we're a markedly better team.

Keeper - worse
Defence - started worse due to injury, maybe the same once we've got everyone fit.
Midfield - much improved
Attack - worse and now Taiwo is injured.

I don't see enough to expect a dramatic improvement to the point that we're suddenly top half. Fwiw though I was talking in general, I would always hope/expect points at home and we've been very competitive away this year. Based on the way it's gone so far, aside from Liverpool, all 4 games will be close, I think we're due to edge another 1-0 in our favour.

RE: Next Few Games - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 10-10-2023

Disagree Wassy.

I think we have a better keeper in Vlachodimos although he hasn't broke into the team yet.

Our defence is better hence the number of goals we have conceded this season compared to the same time last season.

Midfield much stronger and in attack we have more depth and options.

I think some have forgot just how poor we were at times last season.

Still can't get my head around why we shouldn't be taking points from West Ham and Villa etc.

No we should obviously be taking points, just expecting 7-12 is still optimistic, this league is hard.

Defence was the same as last year until this week basically. I think our first choice defence right now looks better although that's basing it all on one game.

I think the defensive improvement comes from a combination of an improved midfield and better tactics plus just the improvement across the board over time. Hopefully that will continue.

" I think some have forgot just how poor we were at times last season."

This is my point though, we were terrible at times last year with a lot of the same players. I think it's too much to expect a massive jump from terrible to good in a short space of time. Hopefully, over the course of the year as the likes of Sangare, Murillo etc settle then we'll get better.

Certainly with Taiwo out, our attack is significantly worse than last year for the next month. We really need one of Elanga and CHO to take a step forward.
