The side were getting worse rather than better and from my eyes, Cooper didnt have a clue. We were wide open and getting stuffed every week. It was right for his position to be questioned, at that time. Im not in any camp Wassy. My frustration with the team pre and post Leicester was just based on poor performances, inconsistent selections and barmy tactics. Lets not let the improved performances of late mask just how bad that Leicester game was and how bad we were in the run up to it. We went to a team at the bottom of the league and they tore us a new one by smashing us 4. It was keystone cops on the pitch, the players were arguing amongst themselves and we looked a million miles away from troubling 17th. In those circumstances any manager at any club in the country will have been worried about his job. RE: New CEO Is Dane Murphy - Paplane - 09-01-2023 Apart from a few greats in the game like Cloughy, Ferguson etc, I happen to believe that one single person is very rarely responsible for the entire sucess any club might be enjoying. So be it, Murphy, Cooper, Marinakis or anyone else for that matter, my view is always that sucess is earned by everyone pulling in the same direction and the club functioning at a level greater than its parts. Thats why Ive never been overly critical of Marinakis amd Vrentzos when they were getting flack and never joined thr Murphy bandwagon when he was considered to be the second coming. Its the same with Cooper. I like the bloke a lot but he's not bigger than the club. And he would possibly concede privately he got a lot of things wrong at the beginning of this season. RE: New CEO Is Dane Murphy - ozzyten10 - 09-01-2023 Take or leave this - just passing on… ‘Dane really isn’t all he has been cracked up to be… there has been quite a bit of resentment amongst people at the club for the way he is perceived by fans - there has been f**k up after f**k up and because he talks with that American cheer leader way, there is a feeling that it is more style over substance. I’m not sure you get the real situation being reported either. Cooper had to battle for his picks last month and I’m sure as houses that Brennan wouldn’t now be here if it wasn’t for Randall - not Dane that is the current story doing the rounds. Here’s hoping that super cooper remains happy and focused - he picked Davis and surridge and they look like they will more than make up for Beard!’ Sent to me mid February RE: New CEO Is Dane Murphy - TrickySte - 09-01-2023 He has definitely rubbed a few people up the wrong way but I heard completely the opposite re. Brennan. Junior had essentially agreed a deal with Brentford prior to the deadline before Dane, Cooper went directly to EM who then knocked it bacl I reckon Giraldi's biggest job is keeping Ioannis & his book of transfer contacts well away. I think you're missing the point, him getting a lot of things wrong is built into the process of gelling a new squad. It was always going to be a learn on the job situation as the majority of the players had not played at this level. Part of the effect of "gelling a squad" is learning your best system/starting 11 which was always going to be tricky when you had 15-20 new players plus the guys you weren't sure whether they could step up. Could he have got to this current setup quicker, perhaps. However, perhaps the team would not have found it's current level without the experience and learnings of what went wrong in the early games and therefore where the tactics needed to focus to be effective with this squad. All these things take time and experience, one bad result does not make a season. Cooper is not bigger than the club but that doesn't mean he isn't massively in credit with the job that he's done. It's completely unrealistic to expect continual improvement in anything. If it wasn't for how bad we were in games 1-8 last year, I'd of said this season's achievement so far is greater, that's how much the odds were stacked against us. I just think you're missing how incredibly difficult this was going to be for so many reasons. I also heard about Holgate earlier this month so I'm guessing we may speak to the same people! I also agree with your second point about Vrentzos. Indont think I am.missing the point Wassy. The relatively successful results of the season only came after Cooper shut up shop and discarded the back 3 to get the extra man in midfield. It was a change I was arguing he should be making but it had to take the stuffing at Leicester for Cooper to eventually make the change. He didnt see the failure of that sysytem coming in fact he signed more cover at cb in the summer so he could play a back 3. Id also argue mistakes have been made with Awoniyi and Brennan and then there's the failure to sign last season's loanees. Im not an arrogant type who thinks he knows more than the manager, im just saying he was finding his feet too in this league and he's luckly he had so much sucess in the bank from the season before because, as I said above, any other mananger might have had the sack.
