And there is obviously no pressure being applied to Lamouchi to play Carvalho either.

I would image that Mendez is massively influential in Portuguese football hence why we've had so much to do with the guy. I'd say there's no special relationship with him, he's just part of the furniture over there and as it's a market we've been heavily active in, he's been heavily involved.

They just tried the old buy out of the league approach and it worked, probably because they got a decent coach in as well as players.
Others have tried and failed. They got lucky.

Not sure we got what we paid for with Carvalho.
He had barely kicked a ball in first team football, Wolves bought jota who had had a whole season at Atletico Madrid, and neves started games regularly for Porto in the champions league. That's the difference.
The others they bought in Costa and cavaleiro with similar experience. Real quality players, not gambles that Mendes sold us. That is what I meant sniffer. I'm not convinced on the outlay for carvalho either.

If we put the money forward we could have the same calibre of player wolves got, we just have to pay and we do not seem to want to shell out for the top players and gamble on players who could potentially turn in to good buys. Unfortunately for us none of them have really come off up to now.

We are way off topic for this thread I know but this is what I am moaning about when I say we dont have a transfer strategy.
We may well say we need a back up striker for Grabban but our default option is to go to Mendes who says “here you are we have a couple of brilliant young kids at Wolves, Bonatini and Mir”.
Then we say thanks very much.
