I would love to see him given another chance, he fits much better in CH system than he did in Sabri's as his position actually exists. I'm not convinced CH is necessarily the guy to get the best out of him but he managed to do great things with Knockaert previously so who knows. That said I just looked and Almeria are in playoffs for their league so imagine they'd sign him if they went up and that would be problem solved RE: Joao Carvalho - Jsmed - 27-05-2021 If selling Carvalho (I’m not sure on the agreed fee with Almeria is) means we don’t have to sell somebody else like Worrall then I’m all for it. By the sounds of it, he’s been playing much more since Almeria changed manager, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they take up the option to sign him, unless it’s dependant on them going up. As good as Carvalho is technically, he doesn’t put up enough numbers in terms of goals and assists. So that makes it okay not to contribute - is that the logic? RE: Joao Carvalho - Jsmed - 27-05-2021 Exactly. That’s why I would rather let him go as per the point above. We need fresh attacking blood. RE: Joao Carvalho - Paplane - 27-05-2021 He's costing us 3 or 4 mill per year to have him contracted to the club. If Almeria dont want to sign him (and no-one else does either), and we end up finding him another loan then we may have to fund that deal and our losses may be cut to maybe 1 or 2 mill per year. So the question is, is he worth having back on the basis that he really only effectively costs us 1 or 2 mill per year? Probably a too simplistic way to look at it, but in my view, yes, take him back and see if CH can get a tune out of him. I’m just asking the question. Carvalho gets a lot of stick some justified some not justified. But can anyone tell me who else contributes aswell?? Anyone?? Sure. In the two season Carvalho played at the club (2019/20 and 2018/19) Lolley scored 11 and 9 goals and provided 11 and 8 assists. I believe we can classify that as contributing :) RE: Joao Carvalho - Shawoddyred - 27-05-2021 (27-05-2021, 01:03 PM)GaribaldiRED Wrote:(27-05-2021, 12:33 PM)TheGreenMan Wrote:(27-05-2021, 11:07 AM)GaribaldiRED Wrote:(27-05-2021, 10:46 AM)TheGreenMan Wrote:(27-05-2021, 10:34 AM)Jsmed Wrote: If selling Carvalho (I’m not sure on the agreed fee with Almeria is) means we don’t have to sell somebody else like Worrall then I’m all for it. And since Carvalho hasn't been in the squad, how has Lolley done? I think the more confidence he has that he has the better team, the more he will let them attack. And if he’s happy with his summer business he should be more confident he has the better team in more matches than this season (Wycombe and Coventry?). But I’m sceptical that we’ll see attacking intent to launch for example Carvalho with Johnson and Mighten, dare I say it like a Warburton would embrace. He seems to want a bulk of ‘proven’ performers to give him confidence to loosen the shackles, and even then it wouldn’t be very adventurous, just a bit more, and with better players. As Wassy says, at least Carvalho in theory fits in the formation, but I’m doubtful it will work out. Here’s hoping though. This is the point I made re David Silva wouldn’t look good in our side. The system is a problem. You can’t put a player in a negative set-up, isolated from others to feed them and provide options, and expect goals and assists to flow. It’s no coincidence that all our players stats are iffy re goals and assists, yet when we had a more cohesive attacking unit under Karanka, Carvalho and Lolley and Grabban all looked the best we’ve seen them. (I actually thought Karanka was too defensive with his rather defensive ‘double pivot’, and the front 4 not supported sufficiently, but the attacking quartet were relatively cohesive, at least compared to recent fare). Then we spent 2 years mostly defending, and this year especially slowly feeding the ball wide and popping a cross in to a short guy who is afraid of headers. I know a lot of people disagree, but I honestly do think that we will become far more of an attacking force next season assuming we get in some good players in key positions. I hope Brennan can have as big an impact as he has at Lincoln, don't see why not, another year on Mighton so onwards and upwards for him, a few good signings... If we can keep our GK, CBs, build on our CMs and add more pace and power on the wings I think people like Carvalho would be extremely useful and their stats would improve no end. No point attacking with a carp defence so completely right we sorted this first. Next up, score more goals! Hughton's Championship stats for goal scoring is extremely good....it's just when he gets to the Prem it's more difficult...quite happy to say thanks very much Chris if we get to that point! |
