RE: Current Players Thread - ozzyten10 - 06-06-2023 There has been a few sniffs already on Yates… RE: Current Players Thread - Red Dog - 06-06-2023 No way i would want Yates to leave but what would his current worth be? Fast, strong, athletic players able to attack at pace - that’s the new blue print cooper has just about said in so many words. That’s the profile I believe we are targeting Yeh absolutely. We have a nucleus of Brennan, Morgan, Taiwo and Danilo who fit that athletic, fast, profile of player. We need more now. It would be good if we could get a centre back of that profile, and we could defend 10 yards higher up the pitch. When Taiwo, Ryan and Niakhate were out for a long time, we just couldn’t replace them with players of the level of athleticism that you need at this level. We have been out of the big time for so long, that until you see these teams close up, it’s incredible the athleticism that all teams in this league posses. Athletic ability in the championship was a nice to have, in the Prem it’s an absolute necessity. RE: Current Players Thread - Red Dog - 06-06-2023 Surely go to be at least 25m in the EPL if Ward-Prowse is talked of as 40m? He would need replacing with a sensible alternative and we would not get that for 15m would we? I'm pretty certain SC and EM already know this, but whilst we do need to offload some chaff from our payroll, we would be completely mental to even consider selling the likes of Yates, Worrall, Johnson, Danilo or MGW, irrespective of their value. We need these lads next season so we can push on and finish in a higher league position than this year. We can't do that by weakening our squad. I would sooner the club received another £100+M for playing in the PL again next season, than £15-£20M for one of our better performers RE: Current Players Thread - Red Dog - 06-06-2023 Agreed. My point re £25m, is that if Yates went he will need to be replaced and i am not sure you could do that for £15m. All this talk of Ward-Prowse being worth north of £40m is scary. Great penalty and free kick taker but he was key player in a side that finished 20th in the EPL RE: Current Players Thread - McDurban - 06-06-2023 (06-06-2023, 06:09 PM)Tricky Wrote:(06-06-2023, 02:53 PM)McDurban Wrote:(06-06-2023, 02:36 PM)Red Dog Wrote: No way i would want Yates to leave but what would his current worth be? Replacing him would be near impossible for money he would be "worth". Worrall has now stepped up and unless his form dips, has shown he is more than a squad player. If he is likely to be 4th choice (as some are suggesting) then he'd be wise to consider his options. I'm not convinced he will be down the pecking order as he is our most dominant header of the ball by some way and the last 1/4 of the season barely put a foot wrong when on the pitch. (Since Villa away). If we don't sign any CBs, he starts for me now. He also isn't injured every few games. I do think we need to improve in this area though. That’s the profile I believe we are targeting Indeed- and within a few seasons it will filter down more to the championship too. Several of us have been banging on about a lack of pace for a few years now; it’s the thing Brentford got right when they built their current platform a few years ago, and it’s taken a new coach and a home grown speedster to ram the point home. I’ve no idea why- it’s not rocket science. An example of an ‘old style’ player who might be surplus largely for this very reason is Freuler- covers more km in a game than almost everyone but a lack of pace and physicality makes him all but obsolete. I’d warrant a guess that the coach may be looking to upgrade mangala for the very same reason as he is dead slow, and links to Tyler Adams and Maia may be no coincidence. That’s what is now really exciting about the club and (hopefully) the emphasis within the recruitment criteria. |
