15m on Elanga based on the fact he's rejected a bunch of other teams he obviously expects regular gametime. Does this suggest a switch to 4231 (or 433 if Brennan leaves?)

Or 5 3 2 with a MGW deeper out of possession?
Everyone since Elanga signed on the socials have theorised we’d play 4 at the back, with a front four with Elanga/Johnson as wingers, MGW in the middle and Taiwo up top.

The two behind Taiwo is how he used Brennan late last year or Danilo, think that was most effective. Based on that article Brennan is off and we're playing 3 CBs and wingbacks! Can see why they'd want another DM then.

Elanga can also play up top, can be in the two ahead of Gibbs White, drifting into wide areas 5-2-1-2.
He is said to have explosive pace so playing off the shoulder, beating the trap in wider areas could be in his bag of tricks.
I think he gives Cooper options and fluidity in formation.
Basically all of what you suggested is possible.

Having Danilo, Yates, Mangala and dare I say it, Sangare or similar as the 4 for the season would be significantly stronger than last August.
MGW or Scarpa can drop back into the two in an injury crisis.

Johnson won’t want to start the season on the bench. You could get away with saying he was rested at the back end of last season given he’d been kicked up and down the wing all season and had gone to the World Cup, but not come august
