#nffc CEO Dane Murphy leaves by mutual consent. Has been likely for about a month. Strained relationship with key figures after allegedly failing to back Steve Cooper following the Leicester defeat. Club will continue to run as before with progress already made on transfers

Ambiguous statement from Percy

Does he mean strained relationship because Murphy didnt back Cooper or strained because “key figures” didn’t back Cooper?

Remember after that Leicester game we started getting linked to Rafa Benitez? Wouldn't have felt like a Dane thing to hire him.

No mention of Cooper in his statement and the Cooper new contract was signed directly after the story about Dane being on the brink was released. It feels too coincidental to not have been something to do with him.

If he somehow was the reason that Cooper stayed then that is also a great farewell present to the fans.

I don't know how i feel about this to be honest. Time will tell i guess.

A statement that won't have been edited or published by Dane himself isn't worth a lot in my opinion. Remember it's also been reported he's taking the club to court over unpaid bonuses, not sure I'd be thanking those people if I were him.

Ultimately people will believe whatever side of the story they think is true or something in the middle, I'm just giving the side I believe to be true and I think it was an intentionally vague Tweet by Percy to spin a narrative this morning.

Marinakis backed Cooper and gave him a new 3 year contract.

Yes agree with that Sniffer.

Also noticeable that contract signed after recruitment team left and subsequently both results and Coopers demeanour improved.

As for Murphy whatever the rights or wrongs, once you start threatening legal action against your current employer (seriously WTF) that relationship is long gone.

He thanked the owners by name individually in his statement but mentioned neither Cooper or Giraldi.

Or am I just reading too much into all this?

It does fit with the narrative that Percy was suggesting and the timing of the contract signing.

On the other hand it feels out of character for him to be in a feud with the manager.

So much for him being in the states trying to get Dennis and uwang clubs….

Well he was in a feud with the club around his own contract. No idea who was right or wrong there but it does very much sound like there were issues that were never going to be resolved.
Thanks for the promotion but we move on.

It does seem unlikely to be a coincidence and be related somehow. Was a pretty weird situation all round with Cooper supposedly agreeing a new deal, then not signing it, then signing it when it had been briefed that he was on the brink of the sack.

Dane has obviously contributed to the recent turnaround including with the appointment of Cooper.

However we got here, we do seem to have a more coherent structure now with a guy in place that has experience of being the middle man between manager and board. Cooper's position is now stronger both with the new contract, the sustained support from the stands and online and the club's improved position. So lets be happy with that even if the story in the background appears slightly murky. Lets just hope Giraldi was the reason Watford didn't sack more managers and not the other way round!

Sorry to see Dane Murphy leave #NFFC. Played a big part in club’s modern success, helped put together promotion team and was key to bringing in Steve Cooper.

Sadly, his position has been untenable for some time. If anything, probably a surprise it didn’t happen earlier

Dane appointed and championed Steve Cooper. His relationship with club fell apart because a) he hired solicitors after club (allegedly) didn’t pay him promotion bonuses b) club official briefed stories to newspapers that he was in danger of losing job. Untenable after that, sadly

Not if you understand how payoffs work and how statements are put together as part of that process. It was all written about extensively some time ago that his position was untenable because of this.

Dourekas was key to bringing in Cooper not Dane but apart from that DT is correct in that his position had become untenable for some time.

RE: New CEO Is Dane Murphy - zicorice - 09-01-2023

As I said on another thread, this has been coming - since January last year tbh.

As I also said, this is an interesting topic regarding some of what went on, but this will not have much of a negative impact on the football side.

I think he deserves huge thanks and kudos for pushing for Steve Cooper as manager, this decision leaves him massively in credit concerning his tenure at the club.

He also was the main man dealing with getting the club premier league ready in the summer in terms of physical infrastructure- a much bigger job than anyone expected when we went up. (The "manual" given to Forest was the size of a phone directory -for you youngsters  that very big). Only mistake I see on that side was allowing his new appointment in Ticket Office to push forward with the bullsh1t memberships schemes without taking account of ANY previous loyalty (400 deserving people aside).

He was very popular with all staff and often popped into others offices (especially if air conditioned).

I suspect (but do not know, just a hunch based on timing and the language) that his statement would form part of an NDA thrashed out over a period of time.

Ultimately he did the job that needed doing and for various reasons it's time for both parties to move on.

I am sure we all wish him well and his legacy is that he started the ball rolling for last seasons incredible rise by getting Steve Cooper in after years of wasted millions of the big man's money by others.

Thank you Dane for your contribution and good luck in your next move (unless of course it is one of D€rby  Liverpool  Sheff Utd, Spurs  Leicester, Leeds, Wolves, Newcastle or Millwall).
