He is part of the recruitment team you know and he was himself recruited by Modesto to be our manager. I don't know what is worse, that they have & signed him, or that they haven't. RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 01-03-2020 So how many times have you seen him play in the flesh Alf to back up your point of view over that of Lamouchi, Modesto and Anigo? Can you give us your 'scouting report' please. Can you list us his strengths and weakness's etc. RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - Alf - 01-03-2020 (01-03-2020, 12:04 PM)Sniffer Dog Wrote: So how many times have you seen him play in the flesh Alf to back up your point of view over that of Lamouchi, Modesto and Anigo? I expect people who get paid hundreds of thousands of pounds per year, and who take a cut of my hard earned cash from ticket sales etc, to be far better at me & any other fan at sourcing players. The fact that they aren't is the source of this debate. We don't have to up our game, no one's paying us to do that job. They do. So you think you would be able to convince players who do not want to sign for us to change their minds and sign? Players like Bowen, Grosicki and Freeman; how would you do that? How would you get round the huge financial constraints the recruitment team are working under? What tip would you recommend for getting players to drop crazy wage demands and sign on realistic wages? I would bet you had no objections when a cut of your hard earned cash was going into Billy's back pocket, or was that acceptable? You make no sense. You have wrote him off but you have never seen him play. Yet our recrutment team and manager have seen him play and know all about him and see him as a good squad signing. Why should I believe you over them? RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - Alf - 01-03-2020 @Sniff - Because he's added absolutely nothing at all to our current promotion push. It's not that "he's a waste of money" its "if you're gonna spend 2m in Jan, do it on players who make a difference to the team straight from the off. No club should be signing players for future seasons when they sit 3rd & within 2pts of the autos. The players they shoud be signing should make the difference here & now. Da Costa may become our greatest player ever, but that's not gonna help get us up this year if he's not up to it. @JCK - over 5.6m for a player who "may come could" is an utterly stupid investment for a club the size of ours. Ridiculously bad. "They may come good" - Rafa Mir, Muric, Botsock, Bonatini etc. Recruitment has to get good enough to sign players for the here & now. Silva came good after slow start. Six other lads have been coming good all season. We are entrenched in the top 6 ffs. To write off lads who cant break into this team is nuts. It means a- the starting lads are playing well and b-they are mostly staying fit so opportunities to break into side are limited. Surely this us a good thing. No? I have told myself to stay out of this debate (self regulation if you will), but some of the stuff being spouted is beyond daft. What are we 7 years old? playing football manager where only being 10 points clear with every signing being great and dropping straight into the team and smashing it is acceptable. Anyone who wouldn't have taken the position we are in and the way things are panning out before the season started is deluded. We may still finish top two and we may still drop out of top 6, but I doubt it. Play offs look most likely outcome and that will represent another season of progress-whether we get up or not. All this sniping at the people responsible for signings (including 5 of our starting XI), the fringe players, the talented young record signing and the January signings is unedifying. I know people say if you don't like it don't read it so goodbye. I shall keep my support on the terraces with my mates and my debate in the pub for a while. RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - Tricky - 01-03-2020 Jeezuz christ! This is getting so boring now! We are sitting in fourth position in the league with a comfort gap between us and Bristol in 7th place, and we have a game in hand (until tomorrow at least) Why all the squabbling? I would dread to think what things would be like if we were down near the foot of the table instead of potentially being 7 points off the top spot and 6 from 2nd place! RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - optimistic_red - 01-03-2020 There is no debate on this thread. Some people think the club have not invested wisely and risk not gaining promotion, others think this is the best year we have had in many, so they cant be doing that bad. No one is likely to change opinion and we've heard all the arguements. RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - ozzyten10 - 01-03-2020 It was frustrating in Jan when it was obvious we needed cover for Grabban. Grabban is out of form and playing with injury - granted he played a blinder last week at Cardiff but it’s clear to me he is really struggling with fitness. We sold appiah and Osborne for decent wedge and also Soudani et al in the summer. I thought a £6m striker could have come in but maybe closer to FFP than we thought. Da Costa and walker - not sure it will be enough but I’d love to be proved wrong. RE: Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020? - Username - 01-03-2020 Hogan is looking like a good signing and Brewster is doing ok too. We never really seem to get our loans right on balance. If you sit in silence don't complain afterwards about it being locked or not. Over to you. I'm waiting... |
