RE: The Runners And Riders... - PsychoStooge - 14-01-2019 How long ago was that? Sorry, it's great for those of you who are happy because you remember O'Neill as a Forest legend first and foremost, but I'm judging him off the football I saw his Ireland team play in recent years and it was rubbish. RE: The Runners And Riders... - Duncan Mckenzie - 14-01-2019 Do you think that Pep could get Ireland to play great football? You have to work with what you have got. An international manager cannot buy players unfortunately but a club manager can. Lets see Psycho what happens mate, we have to give him a chance and some time. RE: The Runners And Riders... - the jock - 14-01-2019 ireland are shit. the players are shit. you cant polish a turd. what manager could have done better with ireland? seriously RE: The Runners And Riders... - Mcforest - 14-01-2019 The problem as i see it is he won't get much time from the owner. think it's top 6 or gone at end of season. then start again. That said fingers crossed we give it a go for the last few months and just don't become a mid-table team with nothing to play for. RE: The Runners And Riders... - Duncan Mckenzie - 14-01-2019 It looks like Steve Guppy will be O'Neills assistant. Two totally different jobs, and he'll be far more up for this one. RE: The Runners And Riders... - Paplane - 14-01-2019 ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED. Why not give it a go? He an international manager with experience. Hes managed at lower league level and at the top of the game too. Poplesaying he is past it say that simply because he's been off their radar for a good few years. They know nothing about where he currently is, how motivated he is, how he's been spending his down time between international games. He can get right into the players and give them a bit of an old fashioned boot up the arse but also has the sophistication to be able to manage them more sympathetically. Most players who've played under him rate him highly. The whole club, owners, players, board and fans if they'll allow it can come together and that force will take some stopping if Marinakis can find him a few quid to bring the odd player in. LETS DO THIS! RE: The Runners And Riders... - the jock - 14-01-2019 how many ireland players are even doing well at championship level? I'm not enthused and I think its a backwards step but he gets my full backing obviously. RE: The Runners And Riders... - Duncan Mckenzie - 14-01-2019 International management and club management are completely different. Can we put this Ireland shit to bed. Martin did a tremendous job at Leicester, Celtic and Villa. CLUB MANAGEMENT. Regardless of quality of player, Ireland were absolutely dire to watch and some of hs selection/tactical decision were very bizarre. On the other hand, I'd hope his appointment would bring an end to recruiting players from Marinakis' network. Hopefully though, whether he's a success or not, this gets it out of our system.I look forward to appointing managers in 10 years time when there are no 'romantic, legendary' choices. |
