RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Paplane - 21-08-2025 (21-08-2025, 09:17 AM)Sausage Roll Wrote: Faint praise from Kaveh Solhekol on Sky Sports this morning. Talking about Palace and agreeing with the Martin Samuel article from yesterday which basically said that Palace would love an owner like EM. This Solhekol guy has burnt his bridges with me. He was so utterly embedded in the Palace cause he was unable to report what was happening in an impartial way. He's clearly a Palace fan and I'll never take anything he says seriously again. I'm sick to the teeth of sky's coverage of football now. Gary Neville is incapable of seeing any viewpoint beyond his Man Utd bias, and (to a lesser extent) Carragher's the same with Liverpool. And Sky's continued and consistent propping up the big 6 is frankly scandalous and has led/is leading English football down a ruinous path. Contrast Neville with, say, Ian Wright, who, while having an affinity towards Arsenal, demonstrates that he's a fan of the game and can see things from a wider perspective. I suspect it's because he's been at a few different clubs and hasn't spent his entire football career in a closeted environment. RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Paplane - 21-08-2025 Last night I was thinking about the effect the big man is now having on English football. We know that most of the media attributed Palace's Europa demise directly to him personally. Last night I was reading about Spurs fans considering him being to blame for the break down of their purchase of Eze, that after he schooled them in the MGW saga. And there have been press articles written discussing whether he'll be turning up at the game on Sunday. Also, social media footage published on non-Forest outlets showing him waiting in the tunnel to congratulate each and every player after a win. He's now an instantly recognisable figure in premier league football. Almost more recognisable than some big players. OMG how far we've come in these last few years. I love the fact he fights for everything. He doesn't mind being the bad guy and doesn't whinge and moan to the media. He's not perfect, he's done stupid things, but god are we lucky that the guy chose us. I can only imagine how motivated and driven everyone is behind the scenes with EM at the helm..I genuinely think we're on for silverware in the coming years. And id love seeing the likes of Neville's reaction to it. He is our new Cloughie, outrageous, opinionated and terrifies everyone. Brentford it was: Marinakis Marinakis He hates the Tottenham he hates the Palace Forest are magic :Funny: RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Salvatore Matrecano - 22-08-2025 Im going to say my piece here and it won’t be popular with a lot of you. EM is undoubtedly the best owner we have had at Forest in terms of the way he has backed us financially and his desire to win at all costs cannot be doubted. He is right now on the crest of a wave in fan opinion, taken us to Europe, got us into a better competition than we deserved, fought off sales of our star player and has invested hundreds of millions We know he is ruthless and that leads to some collateral damage along the way. Cooper was one, I've heard a few things about their relationship at the end and it wasn’t great to say the least. However I think we can all agree that change was inevitable and Nuno has taken us further than Cooper ever would have done. Now is Nuno in the same position? Can we do better still? This is where I have my doubts. Who are we going to get? Jose, Marco Silva, Ange. Are any better? It certainly doesn’t make for continuity. The problem is that EM’s behaviour is widely known and a winner or not its clear he isn’t the easiest bloke in the world to work for. Therefore the pool of managers who are going to put up with him is diminishing rapidly. People mention Glasner, I don’t think he would last 3 months here and I doubt he would come and risk his reputation no matter how frustrated he is at Palace. Would Silva leave Fulham? Maybe and we know EM likes him but if he wants a safe job he will stay put. Ultimately do you want to go and work somewhere when you know your boss is at best difficult to please and at worst a ticking time bomb? I have myself turned down jobs when I could have earned more money simply because it was known the boss was a dick. Im sure football is no different. Which leaves us with Ange and a squad used to a style of play totally the opposite to his. Goodness knows what the players think especially those who have just joined. Before you say it no I don’t want EM out, reread my first paragraph. It just seems we can’t be free of controversy at this club even when everything seems to be going well and Im fed up with it. Can't really disagree with that. I've got no doubt we'll appoint another manager should Nuno go but who it'd be I have no idea. I like Ange but as you say his style of play is so diametrically opposed to how we played last season it's hard to see it working out well. Silva - yeah wouldn't mind that if Fulham would let him go which is by no means certain. It is frustrating though that it doesn't seem possible to decouple EM's ambition from the controversy. Maybe he and Nuno can sort things out but after that press conference it's not feeling likely. We are in a fabulous position with Nuno and EM needs to do what is best for the club and put his emotions aside. RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Mist From The Trent - 22-08-2025 Agree with some of that, but Cooper also fell out with numerous first team players. It happens at every club. You could also argue that EM gave Cooper too much time. I think this ticking time bomb assertion is lazy. He also gave Lamouchi the start of the season after a monumental f**k up and Hughton more time than most of the fans wanted. Football is also different to a job you would have been offered. If they get sacked they'd get millions in a payout. Like not fan the flames in press conferences before games. RE: Evangelos Marinakis And Co - Paplane - 22-08-2025 EM sacked Cooper when it was clear that the guy had run out of road in terms of getting results. And Copper was backed when it looked like he was going to be sacked. I think EM is much more astute that you think Salv. Nuno will be gone when the big man thinks he's taken us as far as he can go, or the results take a dramatic turn for the worst. |
