Ala samba on Sunday for Coventry's winner

Had Samba been in goal no one would be mentioning Cafu. (They would have.)

It was a foot inside the post and his wrists were made of sawdust.  (oh so?  He got across great to the 'right' of his goal earlier in the match for a great save.  Wrists looked solid to me.)

I'm not a fan of keepers standing 'off centre', the wall was badly positioned, Cafu didn't jump for the ball.  It was badly organised, sloppy and mentally 'sawdust.'

But to be fair to Horvath, he did get right across to it and just couldn't reach it.  A bit more and I'm confident he'd 'ave it.

From what I saw of Horvath (and heard), he's a better keeper than Samba for me.  Far more pro-active.

SA.

We’re arguing fine margins here but

(1) Horvath had a full hand on it
(2) Samba’s view for Chav’s second was blocked by two NFFC players when it was struck in open play

And that's why he's been brought in.  To push Samba all the way. I thought Horvath was far more pro-active in his play. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

I reckon if Horvath is where Samba was for the 2nd Cov' goal was?  He saves it.

I can afford him the occasional mishap anyway, he's comfortably the best 'keeper Forest have had for years. (He's better than some we've had.  But his 'mishaps' are adding up.  Not as good as his 1st season.  I'm seeing saves where I think.  Dave Beasant at age 40 gets that.)

On Mighten.  He absolutely has everything needed to be a brilliant forward.  I've been screaming for months/year or more we need to get him playing as the #9 at times.  We've lacked someone with his lateral movement to keep centre-back's busy as well as his running off the shoulder creating a forward pass.

He may be short, but he's a very muscular lad and he is happy to operate in congested areas.  He also has a nose for the goal. He's usually the person attacking the back post for pull-backs/rebounds.

Good comment on Mighten as forward.

He's a busy lad in the gym by all accounts.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bradford City - McDurban - 12-08-2021

I'm busy watching the game at the moment.
Carvalho has just scored his second. Gotta give him credit for two composed will placed goals, classy.
Fornah is really enjoying every minute and it shows in his game. He feels as though he is in control and plays like it.
Richardson & Back both looking good, both eager to get forward. Back shines for his defence breaking pass.
Konate not really in this game, not able to impose himself on the Bradford RB.
Zinc is showing intelligence, leadership and taking on responsibility, looks like a high quality loan. I also see he is right footed, so CH wants a winger not an inside forward, Lolley's opportunities may be limited. I suppose it depends on the opposition but CH has options there.
Mighten constantly making a nuisance of himself, has grown in confidence and plays like a 1st name on the team sheet.
Cafu is tidy.
Fernandez and Harbottle look comfortable playing alongside each other and the understanding shows, both look like good prospects. Harbottle likes to bring the ball out of defence.
Finally Horvath, I don't know much about keepers, I've never understood them. In my day they were always mentally deficient and utter lunatics.

Ah, Konate has just taken three men on and beaten them into the box to win a corner... better.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bradford City - SSM - 12-08-2021

To be fair to Konate, he is very much a central player. I suspect they put him wide just to get him in the game.

I've seen Fernandes a couple of times now and sadly, I am just not convinced. I think he's got the athleticism and desire, but just seems all a bit haphazard. Don't think he's great in possession either. Whereas Harbottle... plays like a pro.

Fin Back is the best of that lot I think. (not including Fornah who is 4 years older than him).

Jayden needs game time at this point in his career. He's had two loans, both teams made the play-offs, but he was in and out. He needs a team where he's going to be the go-to man at right-back/right wing-back. He's got the natural tools you can't teach.

Makes sense

Harbottle does look the better of the two. Both of them cramping up is strange though.

I hope Back gets more opportunities with Forest this year or at least a decent loan.
Fornah must move up to the 1st team squad.

He looks better than Gabriel to me.

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bradford City - Redreg - 12-08-2021

Just watched the game back .
I know they are not the same class as Bournemouth but they are compact and organised.
I thought Fornah was brilliant, Athletic ,strong ,good vision and looked to pass forward , he should play for me Saturday see if he can do it against better opposition. With Garner next to him i think we would have a perfect Cm pair .
Mighten looked Like the 9 we had been missing linked the play held it up well for a short lad moved the defence around and ran the channel’s.
Back is the best of the Lot , let Gabriel leave for a decent fee . Back is a better player all-ready (think he should be kept in and around squad can fill in LB too ) and we have just signed the lad from Ars . If we Get a All our targets in we should let Richardson go on another loan needs to be LG1 . Konate needs a loan like Johnson did last season also Baba needs a loan too .
Also Carv Didnt just score looked good overall some good passes linking play and tracked back to win ball especially 2nd half , Needs to start Saturday.
Zinc !!!! What a player , everything we were missing last season , get him in side along with Carv who he linked up well with last night and Johnson and we could have a exciting 3 in behind the striker all will work hard off the ball aswell .

RE: Nottingham Forest - Bradford City - Strawberry Avenger - 13-08-2021

Insightful comments.

I almost choked on my saliva but to hear Car' track back defensively had me smiling. That's the Hughton effect. As is starting him. As is including him (with all the returning loans) in pre-season.

Some of the Academy lads are raw and need the loans to do the 'Brennan' (and Fornah) effect.

But Fin and Fornah? If you airlifted them into 1st team...I don't think they'd miss a beat.

And Zinc Man. His delivery was from the next dimension of football if we compare it to last season for Forest.

Interesting that he brought the best out of Car who seems to play better with? Better players around him. If you say Zinc, Car and Bren' as a front 3? ...
