Technically we won the European Cup tie there as it was 0-0 meaning we went through and the European champions were knocked out in the first round!
I think you’ll find we were the European champions they qualified by winning the league, we had finished 2nd

I think you will find you are wrong Dach.

Forest were the league champions and Liverpool were the European Cup holders. September 13 1978 at the City Ground where we won 2-0 to the Scouse. The players were all looking forwards to their first foray in Europe and we got drawn against the scouse instead. Watch I Believe in Miracles.

Spot on. McGovern’s famously comments about that.

It's a tough game which we will probably lose but we have to go there to get a result.

Is this a Yates game or do we stick with Sangares successful ball winning approach?

With a back 5 though is CHO going to play? Surely a back 5 with Moreno and Aina/Williams on the wing bombing on negates the need for wingers?

This a good point although I think the practice is applicable despite the starting attacking line up. There would still be one attacking wide player who could work with a wing back which frees up the attacking player.

Maybe an option would be to go 5-1-2-2 or 5-2-1-2. Sangare/Yates, Anderson and MGW in the middle then Wood with either one of our wingers or Awoniyi up top ?‍♂️

I would be tempted to try & shoehorn JWP into the team. If the scousers are susceptible to anything it's a long throw or an accurate free kick.

I remember it well! Shilton made some world class saves and went through. European champions knocked out in the first round.

1982 - winning 3-2 in 81st minute and lost 4-3. Hodge scored twice and Davenport got the other one.

A bit dodgy in Stanley Park that night eh Tricky (the second game at Anfield).

But like the players on the pitch we fought like Lions.

Yes I agree with you and bomber on this. JWP is a cert for me based on our squad height and set pieces against one of the best teams in Europe.

If we want to push up the league we have to find ways to take points from one or two of these games that people call free hits.

Yes agreed, wonder if we see more of JWP starting at away games when realistically our best chance of snatching something is a set piece.

Agree about the free hit mentality too, need to look to take points every game not just minimise the amount we get beaten by.

RE: Liverpool - Nottingham Forest - The reds - 07-09-2024

No game is a free hit anymore if we want to do well this season.

Nuno managed to get some good results away from home against the Big 6 at Wolves.
No reason why we can't pull results out of the bag.
