Happy birthday gaffer

BREAKING: Nottingham Forest's 1-1 draw at Wolves is set to give manager Steve Cooper more time to turn around their fortunes.

Manager targets turning us down?

I think so, I think thats one of the reasons he kept his job last year as well.

We will be bottom 4 soon and that's a hard sell especially to our supposed main targets.

Delusions of grandeur at times.

What has he done to warrant more time honestly, We have won 1 in 12 games, We have no style of play at all.

Agreed. We have had a relatively easy run of games (apart from Liverpool). We beat an in form Villa, but then lost to West Ham, Brighton, Fulham, Everton and got a point against Luton and Wolves. That is a very, very poor run of results against teams that we need to be competing against.

RE: Stevie Cooper - JWJW - 10-12-2023

I would guess we have a split........

The better players.........maybe not happy with the tactics and training.

The lower level players......happy with their chance in the prem.

What we saw yesterday was the lower level players happy to take their chances.

What happens next maybe that EM is worried if he makes the change he not only upsets a lot of the happy clappers but also the lower level players who may well know if an Elite manager comes in, they are done and finished.

Which may mean we have to play the relegation game again and EM makes the change in December, or the summer.........until then.....no change.

Whilst I wouldn’t phrase the above in the same way and resent being called a happy clapper I do agree with a number of points above.

The lower level players taking their chance, yep, but it says something for the attitude of the so called better players.
Whether Cooper is the man now I honestly don’t know but somebody has to work with the squad and it’s difficult to see how the players who seemed to have downed tools and were rightly dropped yesterday will respond. Not happy with tactics and training? All your posts have suggested we just need a coach that shouts at them more? Which I think is rubbish but do agree Coopers back room team are not up to the task.
Elite level manager next? Lets see, think you may be disappointed. Not sure how you will explain it either if Cooper is so limited if he goes to Palace and is successful.

Final point and this may surprise some of you, I think its time for Cooper to go now, ideally by mutual agreement. For the simple reason I think we will be in a cycle were he to stay of bad runs, pressure builds for change, a few last gasp results , repeat. Think we need certainty.

Think that is a good summary. What fascinates me is those lower level players, who many fans wrote off last season, are now being lauded because they put effort in and came out after about how they love the manager, club etc etc. What happens if those players try hard next weekend but we lose?

I also don’t think it’s potential new managers turning us down. More which is the best fit and when is the right time. Given the quick turnaround between Fulham and Wolves and one of the likely candidates being ex wolves so possibly not wanting to join beforehand can see why not done before yesterday. Then given it’s Coopers birthday today can see why not done after yesterday's game out of respect.

Fantastic news, I wonder how much of an impact Steve's relationship with the fans is putting off prospective candidates. Not the most attractive prospect coming in and being the villain to a large chunk of the fanbase on arrival and likely permanently.

It does worry me the source is Talksport though as this is the opposite of what happened after Leicester when they reported he'd been sacked lol.

RE: Stevie Cooper - Salvatore Matrecano - 10-12-2023

I wouldn’t trust Talksport to tell me what day of the week it was.

Would expect to hear one way or the other Monday or latest Tuesday. If there is going to be a change it will be done in the usual way with the new one announced within minutes of the departure, which means getting some ducks in a row.

RE: Stevie Cooper - TheRealRedBeard - 10-12-2023

We all love Coops and always will, but it sentiment alone that is keeping him in a job - and this is a big problem!

We play a woeful brand of football and don’t appear to have a plan outside of counter attacking opposition, never a plan B.

Right but you've all seen our attacking players play regularly now. We don't have the players to play any other way. We have no CF fit, we do however have a lot of wingbacks and centre backs. Yesterday was probably our best performance outside of the Villa game.

We limited Wolves to a couple of chances and created 4 big chances of our own (1 may have been offside) and that was without a striker.
