RE: Brennan Johnson - Paplane - 03-04-2022 If we fall short this season I reckon a lot of the lads might fancy having another crack next season. Weve got something going here now. RE: Brennan Johnson - nffc93 - 03-04-2022 I do hope so. Be great to hold onto him but fear him or Woz will have to go to balance the books a little. But lets hope it doesn't come to that. I'd love that to be the case, but in such a short career that can end from one slip twist, landing or tackle, being offered between 4 and 10 times my salary and I'd be off. (Other than if I was playing for Forest of course- but not sure any of our lads spend stupid amounts of their own salary following Forest all over the place). Money talks. ...but not as loudly if we go up..... RE: Brennan Johnson - Username - 03-04-2022 If I were him I would wait until after the World Cup (provided Wales qualify), after that the world is his oyster. If he manages 20 that would be quite an achievement. I am now thinking even though he only has a year remaining on his contract we are till going to get 15m + for him. I think we'd get more for him. There's got to be a debate about just keeping him for another promotion push even if he doesn't sign a new contract. Although we do need to sell someone if we're still in championship. He's so good though, I know some people were genuinely asking for him to be rested pre international break and he's proven that was not smart. He plays every game and usually 90 and his fitness has also been very impressive. Glad that we could go back to 352 so he could go back up top as he's so good at that. Reminds me of Son of Spurs RE: Brennan Johnson - Salvatore Matrecano - 04-04-2022 We could refuse to sell I guess but think we would find that difficult. To be honest if we dont go up I reckon he will be getting offers from far bigger clubs than Brentford and he will ask to go. Even if we do go up we will still face a battle to keep him. He is PL standard now and its a short career. RE: Brennan Johnson - optimistic_red - 04-04-2022 If we don't go up, he's going to move to a decent PL club, and fair play, I'd wish him all the best. He deserves to be playing in the PL and he's given us so much this year. I'd absolutely hate it if we do go up and still sell him though! RE: Brennan Johnson - Salvatore Matrecano - 04-04-2022 If we get promoted it is possible he still wouldn't sign a contract although I think its unlikely. Norwich got promoted last season and sold their best player before they had chance to kick a ball in the PL. Didnt do them much good did it? Im sure our owner has ambitions when we finally get there. Much as I want Brennan to stay after our promotion realistically he wont if we fail this season. That would disappoint all of us but we will be well placed to be promoted in 22/23. There are no other championship clubs better placed than us with the best manager in the Country, the best Owner and the best academy. The financial security that we have gained through the brilliance of Brennan, Joe and a good few others are the envy of the ELF and some Premiership clubs too. RE: Brennan Johnson - wassy04 - 04-04-2022 He's not going to go on strike though so it's an option. He is irreplaceable already, hence the massive valuation. I know financially it's possibly not the smartest move and the squad is going to look a little different next year if in championship, but there has to be a debate on keeping him, letting his contract run down in the hope he leads us to promotion. Or perhaps agree a new deal with a non promotion release clause at the end of next season with the same result except he gets paid more next year. I see either of these options as good to Brennan as if he becomes a free agent or if it's a low release clause he can choose his next move and also pocket a larger deal in the process. In FFP terms this is clearly a terrible idea and maybe it would be better to just use what's left over after FFP to fill the gaps left by Garner, Davis, Johnson, Worrall (maybe) next year. He is that good though RE: Brennan Johnson - Uwantlee - 04-04-2022 A lot of what Steve Cooper has done this seasons is because of spence and Brennan. Without these 2 the style of play we use is going to be very different. We simply won’t get the same quality if we are still in the championship. If we don’t go up there are going to be big changes and that will be a big test for Cooper RE: Brennan Johnson - Paplane - 04-04-2022 Cooper has us on the verge of the playoffs and got Swansea there twice. Regardless of who leaves I have confidence that he can put together a side next season to do the same if we fall short of promotion in the next few months. If Brennan and Wozza have to go we take the cash, rebuild and go again, just like Brentford did when they sold players for big money a couple of years ago. |
