This should be a focus for me, been a weakness for us for a long time at both ends of the pitch. Also, is MGW really our best corner taker? JWP is quite possibly the best set piece taker in the world (shame about the rest of his game) however the gap between him and MGW on corners/free kicks was pretty vast. Perhaps signing a player to take set pieces should be a focus in upcoming windows? I had hoped Scarpa was the answer to that. That was perplexing to me that on the few occasions he did play MGW still took all the set pieces. Don’t see a place back for him though. RE: West Ham United - Nottingham Forest - ozzyten10 - 14-11-2023 Toff should be utilised - best crosser in the club. MGW isn’t terrible at them- I think it was just highlighted when compared to a certain freak in our last game!!! RE: West Ham United - Nottingham Forest - zicorice - 19-11-2023 Finally got around to watching game again - didn't want to comment from away end 500 yards from pitch - but game was exactly as I thought. Positives - We manufactured 2 excellent goals and another 2 very good chances. - Taiwo back in goals. - Elanga I thought was dangerous throughout. His potential is huge. 2 goals and 3 assists is certainly a promising start considering the minutes on the pitch. - Keeper looked fairly decent again. - Danilo looked very good. - Toff steady again. - Scored 2 away from home. - It was better than the England game (which I also went too...) Negatives - Still a shite stadium for football. - We lost 3-2 but on another day if West Ham weren't sh1t/knackered it could have been 5 or 6 without West Ham having to do anything other than accept the numerous gifts we continued to offer up after the very unfortunate start. (I think I may still be fuming). - Nobody on post for set pieces from JWP seems nuts to to a layman like me. - Young Centre back pairing were superb against Villa, but we need consistency in that position throughout a game and from game to game.(They struggled to put it mildly) Maybe Felipe alongside Murillo to bring him on? (If he's ever fit). Otherwise days like this will happen from time to time. - As above but young back 4 will also have off days. Aina has been my signing of season up to now, but at West Ham he was inconsistent. - MGW had a strange game. Thought many of his set pieces were actually fairly dangerous (not all, unlike the dead ball freak for them) but I now understand why their fans have adopted our song and changed it to "West Ham are massive every where they go"..especially in their own penalty area. - MGW in open play still trying to create his own showboating section when not necessary (that back heel straight out of play?) but also looked dangerous. Very telling that a West Ham fan on train said they thought he was the player they noticed and came to fear the most when he got possession. Unlike many others I like him playing from the right as he has more space and his lack of pace doesn't seem to have much impact. His workrate ensures our shape is decent out of possession. Overall Steve Cooper absolutely nailed it in his interview and I absolve him of most of blame (aside from no men on post). This was a game we looked like we were well capable of winning, but determined to f@(k it up through a lack of application and concentration. But that comes with territory with a younger side. Just frustrating that West Ham defended properly and took all 3 points without having to do much else. Sorry its a week after game, but been busy. But worried about Brighton game if we don't sharpen up. |
