it’s always difficult to gauge the true level of support as social media is often different to the vibe you get at games.

However, there appears to at least be a 50/50 split, maybe even a majority that have now decided no matter what, that MON is not the man they want to lead the club.

Such a shame that the goodwill has seemingly gone from the summer due to these events.

The easy decision would be to sack him, the club need to be very brave if they truly do believe he is the answer.

I think this summarises the position pretty well.

The only question I would like to ask, if they stick with Martin and allow him to work under his conditions, is what was it with Aitor that made them allow his position to become untenable.

If you ask me 'who is the manager' he is the guy, isolated on the touchline, losing due to no fault of his own, with few options on the bench and surrounded by 20,000 miserable f***ers

A benchmark for me is Brian Cloughs last season, we usually lost, we usually huffed and puffed, the players usually tried there best, but the backdrop was moaning groaning from the stands, though I don't really remember booing, back then it would be 'we need a 20 goal a season striker',  we need a clearout, funny thing is 3 quality signings and a lot of that squad won promotion the next season and finished 3rd in the PL the season after

Anyway the true fans are prepared to suffer as M o N and R K are prepared to suffer, there will be a nucleus of players, hopefully, if they don't all get driven out who are prepared to suffer, I've seen players give there all, battle or try to show some class, I don't think the fans know what supporting a football club is anymore

Don't know what happened with MW or AK, I was eventually prepared to get behind AK as well as all the others, because when I see any guy suffering and looking isolated, then I realise, that is the NFFC manager.

The MW and AK philosophies were diametrically opposed, I think in every way, good and questionable from both.  Ultimately it is about rebuilding the club, the squad rebuilding, i am not sure it has really happened, for 25-30 players coming in this is over saturation and probably takes away from building a team spirit, building a team spirit does need lows and soul searching and dressing room bust ups, either we agre going through a meaningful transition and sifting now or some want to start all over again.  I think now is perfect timing and the losses now and friction now and seeing peoples true colours now is all good in my book.

We have a some good squad players but collectively like most teams in the championship all are capable of losing 4 or 5 or 6 on the bounce, many have done, now is as good a time to do the soul searching and hit a rock bottom, now is an opportunity, either support your Manager and team to the hilt or go.  This is really what a proper rebuilding and galvanising is, trying to get rid of all the dross players and fans.  The fans have been stunting players and alienating players and getting good people sacked for years.

Prior to that sending off yesterday we were totally in the game, the game plan was working perfectly, i wonder if the loss was maybe a good thing, lets all pretend M o N and R K aren't going to be good for NFFC, it's a free ticket to get even more deluded.

MoN and RK feed the moaners and groaners, proper fans can't get to many of the games because it is choked out with bodies who have paid £5 and think it gives them a right to disrespect someone who has achieved more in football and management put together

So loyal fans who pay the entry fee and then moan because the football on display and the results are both atrocious aren’t proper fans??

I forgot we’re not allowed to criticise O’Neill because he played for the club 40 odd years ago

Where do you get that impression from GreenMan?

Do you actually read this forum?

Most posters are criticising MON...

This is a nice post PSS, well reasoned and I sympathise and want to agree with it all. However there is just too much that doesnt add up right now. You say we are losing and its not MON/RK’s fault. Is it? There is talent there, in the autumn we bossed Boro away, should have beaten Leeds Norwich and Villa on their own grounds, just denied by useless refs. Even if we dont have the best players there was some cohesion and we were competing against the top teams. Right now I dont think we would beat theDog and Hammer 3rd XI. Who do we blame?

I want stability, I want to believe in O’Neill but I see a team going backwards and a management team struggling to change it round. The fans are supportive at games, the only dissent has been the Carvalho chant and the booing of one substitution. I have heard much worse even in recent years, most of the winging is predictably on social media.

You make a good point about diametrically opposed philosophies and I think that is part of the problem. The solution of course is continuity in both recruitment and playing styles. So do we trust MON to add to the team complementing what we already have or is he more likely to rip it all up and bring in big physical players? Will that work or will results not really improve, sacked in January and we all start again?

It was probably this “proper fans can't get to many of the games because it is choked out with bodies who have paid £5”

i don't think they are to blame at all, i think we deserved something from the Blackburn game, yesterday upto the sending off i thought we looked solid and professional and did make Sheff Utd look like an over achieving promoted side from L1, i think we looked more likely to win the game.  We were respecting them like they were Barcelona and giving them a lot of the pitch but that was all good tactics from what i could see.  When push came to shove we were outcompeting them and probably had most of the better players.  I don't think M o N and R K could of set us up any better to let the opposition grind themselves down and run out of ideas.  Offensively we are lacking, and don't risk a lot of offensive players but there wasn't a need to.  I was very happy until the Red made it difficult as it infused confidence into an opponent that was going to struggle against us on equal terms.  There was nothing between us 11 v 11, yes us and a PL contender.

AK had a similar run last year, the thing with him and maybe the club is, total short termism, no interest in the youth, hire and fire, short contracts, journeymen and loans and golden oldies and the mysfunction of having 3 portugese and others unloaded onto him, to be honest looking at all the signings in the summer my expectations were quite high but despite all the signings seemed close but someway off at times a side that picked itself.  Even this season Appiah makes his debut when we are 2 goals down against Burton, scraped past Bury etc, i realise how difficult football management is.

4 of the 5 'MoN signings' are good, i don't know where we would be without them.  I love Milo and Benalouane though the latter obviously along with most of the team need to work on disciplinary stuff and 'boxing clever'.  We have good squad players, some could probably become excellent with a bit more backing from the fans,

i guess Osborne and others would dread the moans if they are coming on as a sub, i remember Andy Reid on his debut, moans all around me when he tried to keep the ball and do something intelligent, this sort of stuff is stifling players development, not saying there isn't progress and sometimes amazing, phenomonal support like the pre Derby game but a lot of it starting to seem like empty hypocrisy.

Fans over expectations is what drags the bigger teams with a lot of baggage down.  Maybe season tickets are a bad thing, they think they are buying the PL to be delivered to them on a platter, time to get supporters not moaners and groaners..

Having M o N is a unique, never to be repeated opportunity, not just his exceptional phenomonol career but also he really has achieved more than all the other championship managers and most PL put together, he's won 25 odd games on the bounce, he has over excelled at most clubs and out thought most opponents.  He isn't here for the money he is here for love of the club, we don't deserve him at the moment.

There aren't many but maybe just a few that deserve absolute total support for at least 50 games and a few transfer windows and a pre season.  M o N will never happen again, he doesn't need this and will be cut to pieces after losing a game, this is why you support a manager and a team, forget the good times they don't need you.

Brilliant post!

Absolutely delighted for MON.

It was a huge game for him yesterday.

He so badly needed a top performance and a big win and he got it, if he hadn't then I would have feared for him.

Credit to him for changing the system around and going 3 at the back, that took balls, I dread to think what people would have said if it had failed.

I hope we stick with that system now, it gives Carvalho and Lolley some freedom and space behind a striker to do what they do best, it also suits the game of both Osborn and Cash more and we have an abundance of center backs to choose 3 from.

IMO MON looked at the injuries to the Boro team and went for the back 3 to be more offensive and to try to turn them around with iron lungs Cash and Osborn flying as wing backs. It worked brilliantly on the day and Carvalho grabbed the opportunity it presented to him with both hands which was great.

But, unless Mon decides to throw caution to the wind and go for it in an away game, next week we'll need to be set up to be less offensive. And also QPR will be more ready for the back 3 than Boro were.

He'd be mad not to have another look at it after it worked so well yesterday, and especially in an away game, but I'm not so sure it will work as well against a team that can see it coming.

A back 3 is what MON mainly used at Leicester and Celtic where he had a lot of success.

I believe it is his prefered formation.

I am not sure why it took him so long to use it at Forest but now he has used it and it worked a treat I think we should stay with it home and away. The three at the back suits our squad and it's a formation that is mainly used by Sheffield United and they haven't done too bad with it.

If he does stick with it we need another right wing back to alternate with Cash. And if Osborn goes to Stoke then we need a left sided player too. Not sure if Darikwa can operate further up the pitch. Maybe Byram can.

RE: Controversial Poll MON Stick Or Twist? - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 23-04-2019

I agree Pap.

Robinson can play left wing back but is more likely to be on the left side of the back three I think. Hopefully Benny will stay.
