I'm really not sure what you've seen in the 180 mins of football he's played to suggest he's a better and more rounded player? MGW has significantly more premier league experience too.

Also what's that got to do with Wood and Shelvey?

One doesn't have to be better than the other.
Scarpa would have got some game time if he wasn't injured.
He got chucked in at the deep end but he still performed very well.

RE: Current Players Thread - JWJW - 05-05-2023

Is he injured now ? Or in Coopers "bomb squad" with JJS

Seems rumours he is in discussion to sign for Flamengo ?

RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 05-05-2023

All managers have a bomb squad and when you have a playing staff of well over 25 it becomes inevitable.

Scarpa is way from the first talented player who many thought has been harshly treated. Carvalho the obvious one, Yuri Ribeiro too in recent years. I dread to think of the millions of talent sitting in Chelsea’s bomb squad.

The summer will see another big turnover of players exactly as it has in the last 5 years. I will leave you to decide whether that has been a positive or negative factor in this season's results.

RE: Current Players Thread - wassy04 - 05-05-2023

I'm really confused what other people have seen in Scarpa to think he is really good/performed well.

He contributed no goals/assists, he has no key chances created to his name, no through balls credited, according to the prem website he managed 6 shots, 1 on target.

He seems like a nice guy and I certainly wouldn't write him off yet. Personally thought he looked off the pace albeit a nice touch. Pretty much what I'd expect to see really, based on his profile. Hopefully with time to adapt and rest after the Brazilian season (and recover from injury) he can have more impact going forward (although not sure who he's replacing).

I don't see what he's done to justify claims he's performed well or a "more well rounded player than MGW". Unless someone can enlighten me with some evidence?

You have to be able to see what he can offer the team but SC does not feel inclined to do so, yes I know he supposed to be injured at present. You are not voted the BEST player in Brazilian football if you are crap, give him some real game time in a forward thinking side with a similar mindset of the coach then judge!

So in other words based solely on his CV playing only in Brazil and nothing since he joined Forest?

So you'd like to see MGW dropped for him?

RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 05-05-2023

Can we just revisit this “best player in Brazil” myth.

He has performed very well in a domestic league with a totally different style to the Premier League and ne of lower quality albeit there of players of real potential there.

Scarpa is 29.
He has not been picked up by any other British or European team which suggests no-one else thought he was that great either.
He has 1 Brazil cap to his name from 2017. He has not made the Brazil squad for the last 2 World Cups.
He may well be a talented lad in some circumstances but he isn’t Neymar Mk2.

At 29 years old, never playing outside of Brazil, that does not translate into being competitive in the Premier League.
Danilo, not voted as best player in Brazil, at 21 can become a leading Premier League midfielder quite quickly.

Get off the lads back and give him some support.

It's obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes that he has something about him.

His work rate when he played was tremendous and some of his passing was superb. Lets remember that the movement in front of him and around him is not the best and probably not what he is used to.

Getting on his back for no reason.

RE: Current Players Thread - Salvatore Matrecano - 05-05-2023

Err….absolutely nobody has got on his back.

Just saying that looking decent in Brazil doesn’t necessarily translate to a successful Premier League player and that some of us wouldn’t play him ahead of Gibbs White.
Had he been fit I’m sure he would’ve got more chances to show us what he can do.

Yep we're not criticising him, just calling out people claiming he's been victimised for not starting games whilst injured or otherwise. Jury is very much still out which is the case with anyone that has only played 180 mins.

I have to say I did not see this so called work rate personally though, his passing did look decent. As I said before unsurprisingly he looked off the pace, which given most players struggle when they come to the prem and he'd just played a full season was not surprising.

If he was fit would you prefer him to start over MGW?

RE: Current Players Thread - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 05-05-2023

Why does it have to be either MGW or Scarpa?

They played in the same team at home to Leicester in what was one of if not our best performance of the season.
