RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Joe Baker Legend - 01-05-2023 Toffee men level it 2-2 RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - wassy04 - 01-05-2023 This game is incredibly open, not fun to support a draw. RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Paplane - 01-05-2023 That'll do. Draw keeps both sides near us. RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Sausage Roll - 01-05-2023 Excellent. No confidence-boosting victories for either side tonight. RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Plymouth red - 01-05-2023 About as good as we could have hoped for but just makes our defeat at Brentford feel a bit more painful as we could have been sitting 3 points clear knowing a win against Southampton would have kept us up. Oh well, where would the fun in that be. RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Shawoddyred - 01-05-2023 Needless to say, the game against Southampton is absolutely massive. I think a draw suited us tonight. It's not inconceivable that Leeds, Leicester, Everton and us struggle to get any more points this season. We're all absolutely shite and not showing enough ability to get points at this crucial stage of the season. A sad state of affairs for us but at least it gives us some hope at least. Shame our goal difference is so rubbish otherwise we could just lose our way to safety for the next 4 matches. RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - zicorice - 01-05-2023 The pressure on the Southampton game is now insane. They are a young energetic side too, who won't roll over. Can't believe how nervous I am already.... RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Fumanchew - 02-05-2023 Rumour mill on Twitter is big Sam in to save Leeds season… RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Jacksbadhobbits - 02-05-2023 Everton’s last two fixtures are away to Wolves and then at home to Bournmouth. Both those teams are poor but safe. I think Everton will win them and scrape out of it again. Leicester have a harder run in Liverpool at home and Newcastle away but next up they have Fullham away and last game WHam at home. WHam probably safe then but still rubbish. I reckon they could pick up four or five points. To have any chance we have to beat Southampton and one other. Points looking more difficult from those three. We are going to have to get a surprise win, most likely at Chelsea and or Palace. Fingers crossed but it is looking a tough ask RE: The Premier League 2022/23 - Paplane - 02-05-2023 Big Sam to Leeds? Wow, that looks like an act of desperation. But he's the type of character you'd expect might be able to go in somewhere and make a bit of a difference, short term. But has he still got it? I suggested him as a joke before, I suppose at least he's likely to offer a different perspective. Not sure it'll be a particularly good one though! We are going to have to get a surprise win, most likely at Chelsea and or Palace. Fingers crossed but it is looking a tough ask Sad to say, but I just can't see that happening. I don't think we have picked up a single point in London this season. We always seem to struggle in the capital, irrespective of which league we play in. If Southampton lose to us next week, and Leeds and Leicester also win, they will be 9 points from safety, with 3 games to play. We would technically be relegating them bar a mathematical miracle and them winning all 3 of their remaining matches and one of us, Leicester or Leeds losing all of theirs. So it's fair to say that we cannot expect to beat the Saints just because they are bottom. They will be playing out of their skins to beat us. Can we beat Arsenal the week after? If we were to beat Arsenal, we could be handing the title to Man City, if they continue to win of course! Arsenal are going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink at us at our place, to stand any chance of staying in with a sniff of the title. Chelsea will be desperate to manage at least one win under Lampard. Finally, forget the theory that Palace will already be on the beach for the final game as they have got nothing to play for. That theory no longer exists. They will be playing for their pride, their fans and to end the season on a winning note. Don't teams get more money the higher up the league they finish? It's all well and good saying 'if we get 2 more wins, then we will stay up'. That's fine if all the other teams around us lose 3 or more of their remaining games. If we were to win 2 of our remaining fixtures and just one of Leicester or Leeds does the same, we are down. In essence then, we cannot hope any of the teams we have to play wont turn up. All 4 of them will turn up and want to beat us, for one reason or another. We have got to go out for 4 more games and play like we've never played before. But with our depleted squad, I somehow can't see us staying up. Unless Lady Luck has a say in things, but even she has kicked us in the teeth far too many times this season already to even rely on her! |
