I thinks it is based upon speculation based upon the players signed and their strengths. For example Christie strength is coming forward and Blackett and the Mbe Lol Soic are supposed to play best in a back 3. Also 3 central defenders seems to be back in vogue amongst a number of teams. Today might be a good match to play it because of the extra height needed to counter Cardiff's areial threat.

Which is a tad unfortunate, as apparently when two sides playing 3 at the back play each other it statistically has less goals than the average match!

We played 3 at the back a few times last season Sniff. Wigan away, Millwall away and another game which escapes me. All 3 were disasters, but he does like it and he does seem to have the players now to be able to play it.

That wasn't 3 at the back, that was just a back 5

If we do play 5 at the back which seems to be the case with two more defensive acquisitions happening in the near future do you think we could employ one of the CH’s as a sweeper and have the other 2 CH’s pushed higher in line with the wing backs (obviously not too high when we attack) or will it not work?

My personal opinion is that we will not play with a back 5 but rather a back 3 with the "wing backs" deployed as wingers when we have possession of the ball. If we are to push the defensive line higher up the pitch we need a bit of pace and I believe this Ioannou guy actually has some of that. I would then deploy him as kind of a sweeper in between McKenna and Worral. That could possibly work but I wouldn't be comfortable with pushing the line to high up the pitch.
