Ryan Yates is always going to be a player that divides opinion, very basic on the ball, can only play the way he is facing, slows any tempo we have down when he receives the ball. But does have good attributes off the ball. One that will always be marmite.

He's becoming more rounded and maturing. I think Keane encouraged him to 'get in there' more.
I think with Garner and our new SA signing alongside him, maybe a chance to play him as a box to box midfielder?
He can be a chaos factor in the box and can come back to help defender. Seems to have a decent engine on him.

I was pleased for him when he got to Captain the side. It was clear it meant loads to him.
As Forest recruit better players over this Summer and January, I'm hoping the likes of Yates, Brennan and others continue to blossom.
Speaking of talent...
Never thought we'd get a Brazilian / Top Spanish League talent to play for Forest. Interesting mix. At least he's got the 'break' to bed in.

I watched Southgate's England.
I could help but feel I was watching two sides that epitomised the Forest dynamic for the last year and half.
Andora with 11 behind the ball. An attitritional tactics when you don't have the talent in the team to play otherwise.
I think that perfectly sums up where we've been with the squad under Sabri and Hughton for the last year and a half. Stalemate ball trying to force the mistake from the opposition.
England, likewise, showed nothing special until the 2nd half when 3 players totally chanced the dynamic from sideways and predictable and slow tempo build up play. Kane. Grealish. Mount. Made a vast difference. Getting in behind, diagonal dynamics, going forward with purpose, that element of unpredictability and finishing. It shows what 3 quality players can do for a side.
I think that relates to Forest this window. They needed some quality players in to give Forest some progressive dynamic...some quality passing, crossing and pace. Do we have them? Well, Garner and Zinc Man certainly can certainly play. The others? We'll have to see.
And 4-3-3. Brennan leading the line? Anything's possible with the right combination of options.
I'd be quite happy with Garner, Yates (operating as a box to boxer for attack and defence) and Oj in the middle 3 with the front 3 being Brennan, Zinc Man and Silva. The fullbacks with a high line to overload the midfield area.

With his injury record Rodrigo is a punt by the club and we should all see it that way. And let's be realistic, an injury free Rodrigo would not be signing for us, we're probably the only club of a decent size that were prepared to offer him a contract.
If we get a few decent performances from him then great, but he'll always be on the verge of breaking down.

I had heard that 4231 was a club policy - decided at the time of the new owners to help with recruitment and mirrored into the academy - to develop long term a club way of playing. Not that it has helped in either aspect! In my opinion Sabri played a 4141 formation anyway.
The club briefing the press about formations for me isn’t on and undermines the manager. Unless that is the purpose!
Just hope our new signings have some positive impact…

My personal opinion is it's been done to placate fans for not signing a striker, telling us we intend to use Johnson and Mighten as ones instead.
I would't have thought they needed to undermine the manager, a large enough group of fans want him out anyway, and the chanting of Sabri's name at games shows that. If they wanted to sack him without criticism they could have done that already.

I hope so too. We all do. That Cardiff game is coming around the mountain. And Mick sides will find you out if you're not on it.
The briefing might have been discussed with Hughton and with his blessing. Maybe it's his idea with the players he's now got? If the 'briefing' was to suggest that the team has options.
It does. One of many possibilities now?
When managers and the hierarchy don't agree, we usually see the 'fall out' of that at some point. They part company.
As we saw with MoN, Aitor, Warburton, Sabri.
As to who was right? I'm sure none of those managers will take any satisfaction from Forest being rooted bottom. Warburton Plan A and QPR's patience with him at least partially vindicates his style of football.
Ironic that we've moved to a more frugal transfer structure and eager to promote a certain formation to the press(?) for a certain style of football (The Forest Way?)

The chanting of Sabri's name show's a complete lack of class. But then, the same (?) Forest fans chanted, 'Pull your finger out, Brian.' (When Forest sat 10th in the old 1st Division.). A poor thank you for the manager that saved Forest from relegation after tidying up Sabri and Recruitments mess from last Summer.
It's natural for humans to tell their side of the story. It's damage limitation. You don't have to show any sign of weakness to certain football elements and they'll jump on you and it's feeding frenzy time. You can see that I-devices and computers and the internet and the 'now now now generation' has made people very 'tolerant' and 'patient' for success. And nasty with it too. Even Calderwood got about ten games and some of his own players. And a striker? Earnshaw? (Or did I imagine that bit...)
The top and bottom of it. Forest don't have that 'alpha' class striker. Grabban's days are behind him. Silva isn't prolific. Lyle hasn't pulled up any trees. I think we'll see a more collegiate approach to Forest's goal scoring. It will be shared amongst our attacking resources. With the sum greater than it's parts. We hope.
We all know we needed another 'alpha' class striker. Any ten year old could tell you that. And Silva's record is hardly prolific. But something about his pacey directness may bring about goals from Johnson and allow better chances for Grabban and Lyle whilst Forest's recruitment team pull their finger out for a January surprise.
Warburton and Forest got hammered for signing Murphy at 31 (was it?). Now we're relying on Grabban at 33/34?
I guess the Accrington Stanley striker wasn't deemed 'good enough?' Though suggested by some on these boards.

Or perhaps its simply the best available formation in the eyes of the manager based on the fact we failed to sign a CF and they wanted to get it out there that he's willing to be flexible. Particularly with Brennan then starting up front for Wales. To give him a bit of breathing room perhaps with a disgruntled fanbase. Or to give us some communication of what's going on, I thought everyone wanted to hear more from the club? Why does it need to come directly? Most clubs talk through local journalists.

I agree with that. It's very possible Hughton told the owners, given the recruitment, he'd like to try 4-3-3. I'm sure the new CEO has briefed Hughton on Plan B (younger players) and based off the 'younger' recruitment team's business a collective decision (Possible?) has been reached that 4-3-3 suits the playing staff available and may explain eg. Silva's 'pacey' arrival. ie. The team now has the running to play that way. It means recruitment, Hughton etc have listened to the feedback over the last year and moved away from short-term-ism and trying recruitment and perhaps a formation that might suit the 'Forest Way' a bit better.
Indirect briefing with the media means the club manage the message rather than the media. Better to get in there 1st with the fans. It's not as if the media like to stir up negativity or anything. It's a positive step that the club are briefing the press and fans. It's what we wanted?
Brennan, Silva, Zinc Man. Suggests a front 3 to me. Lolley and Mighten fit it too.
