The disallowed goal was a real let off for us. Swithched off from a set piece. Same old story. Second half was dominated by a weakened Bournmouth who didn’t have a centre forward. It’s the first game of the season so some allowance for that but if our performance does not improve it’s going to be another long hard nail biting season. It was more luck than judgement. I don’t think we even appealed for offside. It was a case of switching off at a set piece. Luckily we got away with it. The goal we did concede wasn’t great either. Sangare played ok. He is decent on the ball but still not great off it. He is to easy for a midfielder to run off. He doesn’t track runs. Their goal came from that. First half we looked great, fit, full of energy, knocking the ball around with tempo. Looked like a new team full of ideas. But the same old problems arose 2nd half. Caved in, not taking chances, getting over run and then failing to hang on for the win. Yep, this is my feeling too. I didn't have those high expectations but nonetheless it was disappointing to see us unable to beat a weakened Bournemouth team at home. If we were going to be finishing higher up this year, it's a game we'd be expecting to win comfortably. Hard to be too excited about this season, particularly with the injuries yesterday. RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - Salvatore Matrecano - 18-08-2024 If people want to give Bournemouth credit thats fine, they are always underrated and are a decent team. However most of you think we should be finishing or at least want to finish around 14th. So who are the 6 teams that will be below us if not Bournemouth? We certainly need to be taking 3 points at home and if we don’t the only conclusion is another nail biting season. We can and will do better, just frustrating too much of last season’s failings were there again. The thing is the unrealistic expectation puts pressure on the team/management and creates a half arsed atmosphere inside the ground because people are disappointed. We are a bottom 5 team who could achieve more if some things go out way. The sooner our fan base realises this the more chance we have of enjoying our Saturdays. I saw improvements yesterday but they are gradual. RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - Username - 18-08-2024 Thought Yates was excellent yesterday by the way, surprised he didn’t start. Oh, and Aina not completing 90 minutes, there’s a shock. Yes agree with that. If we accept we are a bottom 5 team right now and look for the positives in getting any points wherever they are from it’s probably healthier. However pretty certain EM doesn’t see us or expect us to be a bottom 5 team. RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - nffc93 - 18-08-2024 I'll reserve judgement until the window closes because this going to be a huge factor on where we end up this season. We started the game with not a single new face and given the fact we struggled last season, I'm not suprised by the second half. As it stands we have brought one player that looks to be an upgrade on our starting 11 in Milenkovic. Anderson could play Danio's role but does that make us any stronger from last season? I'd say not. We've signed possibly 2 players for Oly in Stamenic and Jota. Moreira doesn't look to be a starter and neither does Miguel. Hopefully the club has this under control and a plan is afoot with a sudden burst of quality coming in I do like the look of Elenga, MGW and CHO link up play, at times it looks brilliant to watch. As good has Wood is for popping up with a goal, beyond that he offers nothing more at times during a 90 min. When Awoniyi came on it looked like the usual Taiwo who needs a run of games to sort himself out, and given the fact he's had not pre season is doesn't help us at all. A number 1 striker is needed. A number one keeper, and upgrade on Toffollo who's just not up to it, Nico's a concern for me... great at bombing forward but not so great stopping crosses coming in and making timed tackles... The Nico of last season is badly needed or does he need upgrading? Or do we go for an upgrade on Aina's position and shift him accross? I think we need 4 players that better our starting 11. What improvements did you see out of interest? I thought it looked pretty similar to last year's performances. I didn't have high expectations but I expected more than that yesterday. Thought it was worrying how much they faded fitness wise in the 2nd half, in particular in attack. I'd be interested to hear any positives that anyone took from the game? Bournemouth were not good yesterday, they obviously struggled without Solanke. My only hope is that Sosa, Milenkovic plus further new signings inject some added energy into the side. Maybe Anderson will start in place of Danilo for example. Dominguez/Anderson did not look like wingers. I think at least one more attacker of some capacity. That said, one more attacker of some capacity (maybe two after the Danilo injury), a left back and a new keeper and maybe it'll get better... That Bournemouth team we played yesterday was a much weakened one. They had key players missing and no centre forward after selling their best player. I am sure they will improve when the Solanke replacement settles in. Our performance was much like so many last season. Some of the same defensive flaws which we got away with a bit yesterday. At least we didn’t lose but if we are not going to be in another relegation scrap we will also need to improve significantly. Yup pretty similar I can't argue with that. For the record I've always stated we haven't resolved our main issues from last season and we will finish in the bottom 5. Gradual improvements with the same side from last year. I thought we defended set pieces better and I look forward to a better centre half improving us further. Sels made some good saves and distributed the ball well. Sangare looked like an improvement which allowed Yates to run forward with the ball and I think he looked much better going forward. Elanga appeared to take the game to the opponent more and seemed more mobile around the pitch. The last 30 minutes were definitely more of the same but I think we are working on that transfer wise. Ideally we would have brought Sosa on for Elanga to keep our shape and provide more support for Wood/Taiwo. We need Aina and Williams to compete with each other and a new left back. All these factors will continue to improve us over 90 minutes. RE: Nottingham Forest - Bournemouth - The reds - 18-08-2024 We played well yesterday - Bournemouth finished 12th last season. Because they put some good runs together. That’s what we need to be doing more of this season winning 2/3 on the bounce multiple times. Results and Performances are secondary when a player suffers a serious injury Gutted for Danilo - Does all the hard yards in pre season and gets a freak long term injury 7 minutes into the season. Percy said early scans showed at least 3 months out but obviously Forest will have to wait for the swelling to go down before more tests. Seems like two average teams to me, which is understandable for them given they recently lost their two best players. I do agree with you that we do get a bit of a free pass after the injury as that will have been tough for the team both psychologically and also just in planning terms as the game plan will have been built around having Danilo in there. |
