No one in the right mind will pay a large amount for him with one year remaining on his contract; not when he will move for whatever nominal fee is set by a tribunal once his contract runs down.

Johnson must still be playing on his Academy contract which must be on the low side; you would think if an agreement is reached it will be back dated.

He needs to sign a contract, like every other decent academy prospect has with us in the past, do well on the pitch and the rest will follow. IMO talented young players need to give the club at least one contract as a pay back for the development time and effort that's been put in. And us fans need to enjoy watching the lad play for us for a couple of years before he disappears.

I can't but help think that maybe Jonno snr feels he was screwed over at some point in his career and he's seeking to right those wrongs by playing hardball over his lad. The longer this goes on, the more it will sour the relationship between club, player and fans.

Interesting comment.  The sentiments of which I agreed with.

Johnno Senior was reasonably well treated by Forest.  He got a big money move here and had some 'relative' success under Hart after being loaned out, he came back with goals, goals, goals before his last injury 'did for him.'

I wonder what the sticking point is.  The release fee?  Forest have invested in his Academy development.  They'd obviously like to make a decent profit on that if he moves on.  It's the only way for Forest to survive or stand a chance with the Premier League being skewed to the wealthy few.

I think you’re overselling his all round contribution here.

He’s been great and I’m glad he’s one of ours but more often than not he makes the wrong decisions, I’m sure this will improve with minutes on the pitch, it’s just a fact of (footballing) life.

I have to disagree. I think he occasionally makes the wrong decision and not more often than not the wrong decision. If he was doing that then he wouldn't be in the team.

From memory he's put crosses in v Coventry, Huddersfield, Barnsley that have resulted in actual goals being scored. That's not bad going for a lad learning his trade. I'm sure there are other crosses he's put in too that haven't been scored from. And add that to the goal's he's scored himself (sheep, Barnsley, Blackpool) and you cant say his contribution hasn't been impressive. And we're only a third of a way into the season, compare that record to Knockaert's from the whole of last season, I bet it'll be vastly superior. I just think he had a off day on Friday night.

Don't get me wrong, he's been great. I'm not in anyway undermining what he has done.

I just think there's way more to come from him.

The missed chance against Fulham is one that stands out recently, as does when he hit the post against Brizzle, there's a lot more examples but it will seem like I'm being negative about him if I go on, which was not my intention.

Yep, I think so too (more to come). After a decent start under Hughton at Coventry he faded and imo was a passenger in a few of those early games but under Cooper he's come on leaps and bounds.  I dont know what was going on behind the scenes under Hughton, but Brennan's improvement is yet another example of a players game improving overnight. Its astounding really.

He's a youth player. Just as Worrall was. The latter could blow hot and cold with mistakes before his steep learning curve at Rangers. It's part of the territory of young players. Brennan has pace. A shot. Assists. Courage. Fearless attacking prowess. He's been close at times in recent games. He's going to have 'nearly' games. The consistency will come.

He's brought much excitement to the front Forest line.

Yes. 'Way more to come from him.'

Aye.  Bags of potential.

Let's hope for some more leaps and bounds vs Sheff Utd.

Be good to have the Forest attacking line firing on all cylinders.

Hopefully Steve can coach out these mistakes and self capitulations from the Forest defensive line.  I've been disappointed with some of these 'soft gifts' we give to teams or we would have had more points on the board.

The character and talent is there.

Players like Brennan worry the opposition.

He also puts in the effort. He was shattered towards the end on Friday and couldn't use his pace anymore!

Nobody is doubting his effort, his pace, ability or potential. Just saying that his end product needs to be more consistent before we start crowing about having a £20M player on our hands.
He does need to sign that contract though or I will be very twitchy through January.

Over many years supporting Forest we have seen our young talent sold on it's a fact of life, we always get over it and move to the next exciting kid on the block. If BJ goes good luck we move and hopefully get a good wad of cash to buy some talent further down the food chain!

I'm of the opinion now where we don't need an influx of new players at this present time, we need to let Cooper squeeze what he can out of this squad. And so on that basis, let's keep Brennan for a couple of years and see how he develops. For that to happen he needs to sign a contract.

If he left now for say a Brentford or a Southampton in the prem, is that going to be better for him long term that sticking with us? I doubt it. He'd get some cash in his pocket but his development would be restricted and/or he'd just get farmed out to a championship club anyway.

Aye.

No influx of players.  But surgical strikes of 'Zinc' quality at the back, middle and up front.  (Some might say, a LB in addition...)

In the meantime, how much Steve can rinse out of the current squad will tell him if he can coach the mistakes out of the back line or whether he has to bring in another CH or a certain time who can 'monster' crosses.

The contract situation in January for Brennan will be interesting.

Pap, It's not a SC or DM decision though it's Brennan and his dad who will decide his footballing fate!
