Wasn't part of Pearce's deal an advert for his electrical services in the Forest programme? I do remember seeing it in there once

Wasn't part of the deal as such, just asked Cloughie if he could put an advert in programme after he signed. Just shows how crazy money has gone since 1992.....

I always loved the story from Bobby Gould as to how he signed him from non-league, copied below.

Gould's autobiography tells the story of when he saw Pearce playing in a match against Yeovil.

"Towards the end of October, I phoned home and told (my wife) Marge to be ready late in the afternoon as I was taking her out. When I said we were popping down to Yeovil, she said: “Oh, I don’t know any nice restaurants down there.”

"My reply was: “You’ll need a warm coat, not a posh dress. We’re off to a match.” It was raining cats and dogs as we motored down the M5 and she was hardly beside herself with excitement.

"Yeovil’s officials noted our presence and treated us like royalty, assuming it was one of their players I was watching.

"We sat on the front row and the game hadn’t been going ten minutes when the home right-winger landed in Marge’s lap after this blond left-back – the object of my attentions – had raced across and tackled him like there was no tomorrow. “Come on, love,” I said to her. “I’ve seen enough.”

"Wealdstone’s manager was a policeman called Hall and I quickly agreed a £22,500 deal with him. I went to meet the player at his parents’ house and didn’t stand any messing around.

"I didn’t offer big salaries and was mean with the club’s money but my usual sales pitch was: “You do want to play in the First Division, don’t you?” He said yes and we agreed everything there and then. His name was Stuart Pearce."

If I remember well Cloughie had Pearce at his house doing some rewiring and fixing a vacum cleaner.

On this day on 12/6 in 1990 Forest signed a 19 year old unknown kid from Cobh Ramblers in Ireland in a deal worth £47,000.

Roy Keane.

And just 2 months later this unknown kid made his first division debut.

Against the league champions Liverpool at Anfield.

And was told to play out of position marking the best player in the country John Barnes.

Only Clough.

Read Brian Laws account of it it’s hilarious.

Was a decent signing for us and I have fond memories of him.

We've certainly had worse since he left.
