Those Great European Nights Remembered

My favorite European night is probably a strange one for many people because it's a game we actually lost.
25th April 1984. Anderlecht - Nottingham Forest, 3-0.  Despite the result it was such a fantastic trip and a brilliant couple of days. I will never forget it.

That's one of my favorites also MS. An absolute belter of a night. Anybody who was there will know what I am talking about.

Interesting take on what, for me, was one of my worst European experiences.
The reaction of some of our fans to what ( I accept ) was a horrendously inadequate section of the ground led to me declaring I would never travel to a European game ever again ( although I did of course rescind this in subsequent seasons ).

It did get a bit 'tasty' if that's the right word, we were crammed in like sardines though, it was totally unsafe, which led to fans climbing over the fence into the home section behind the goal, it did get a bit nasty.

Anyone remember Dynamo Berlin?

Only Stasi approved fans were allowed to visit the CG for the home leg, so when they scored there was near silence in the stadium. Weird atmosphere.

I was at the game but don't remember much about it. What sticks in my mind was Cloughies interview afterwards when people were writing us off.

Nottingham Forest - Colonge. What a night, what a match and the state of the bloody pitch. Can you imagine playing on a surface like that today?

I remember walking in the stadium and taking my seat, I looked up at the roof of the stand and it had heaters under it. It was a cold night but it felt like I was sitting in my living room. That's what you get when you are/were sponsored by Phillips.

Ajax away, 23rd April, 1980. My first ever away European match experience. Unforgetable trip with my dad.
I remember swapping scarves with an Ajax fan after the match and I had that Ajax scarf on my bedroom wall for years afterwards.

He was absolutely brilliant, he was beaten once but there was no way he was going to be beaten twice.
Fantastic atmosphere too, it was played in the Olympic Stadium if I remember well, Ajax home stadium in those days.

38 years ago to the day. 28th May 1980. Nottingham Forest 1 - 0 Hamburg.
Heroes!

First time I ever cried at a football match, not because we won the cup (again) but from the tear gas used by the Madrid Police for no reason at all.
