Best Forest Team Right Now

Great performance on Saturday v Birmingham and getting close to last seasons game v Middlesbrough. I’m not sure how much of the showing was down to Birmingham’s ineptitude or Forests brilliance. In these cases it’s usually a bit of both and I prefer to believe this is the reason this time.

There were good individual performances all over the pitch such Ameobi with some lovely runs at City’s defence which defending teams hate. Semedo is a real find who gets all over the place and possesses that little bit of aggression that unsettles opposition midfields. Watson seems to be rolling back the years now he has a midfield unit around him that provides guile, speed and technical nouse. There were more individuals worth a mention but what about the partnerships beginning to form? Worral is benefitting massively from a fully fit Dawson. Three league games in and two very tough games in West Brom and Leeds yet Muric has had little to do. A very good sign. Watson, Semedo and Sow in my opinion have clicked. Protecting the defence, some great passing combinations and looking good going forward, giving Grabban the support he needs. Cash and Lolley, Robinson and Ameobi....

To the real point of the thread, we have Samba, Bostock, Jenkinson and Cavalho in whom it would not be unreasonable to believe their inclusion might improve the team. Silva is a good shout too. It’s a good problem for Lamouchi to have. Of course we’re always one bad performance or defeat away from some factions to start groaning but for me, the first two performances though we didn’t threaten too much, showed signs of very good defensive organisation against fancied teams who had minimal changes to disrupt their team ethos whereas our guys might have been forgiven for not knowing all the names their team mates.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer but there are encouraging signs and with 4, maybe 5 players waiting in the wings that will improve the team, we should be optimistic that we can improve on the 9th position of last season and maintain the continuous improvement since the big mans takeover.

My projected first choice X1 ( no one really knows at this stage ) for what it’s worth:

Samba
Cash Milo Chema Robbo
Semedo Sow
Lolley Carvalho Ameobi
Grabbs

I’m guessing that this preference may well change significantly over the next few weeks - the benefit of having 2 players for virtually every position ( without materially weakening the team ).

Without wishing to put a dampner on the thread I think it's too early to say what our best team is right now.

Some payers haven't even started a league game yet.

I will answer the question at a later date.

Really hard to call.
I think certain players have earned the right to keep the shirt across 3 games, Cash, Worrall, Dawson, Watson, Semedo. Some have made impacts since getting a game, Sow and Ameobi. Whilst others found their form on Saturday, Robinso and, Lolley. Then their is Grabban who has 2 goals in 3 games. At present, none deserve to be dropped.

Of those waiting in the wings or coming back soon. Adomah has proved his worth, Silva is getting better, Mir looks like he will have to bide his time and be an impact sub. Riberio looks like he won't relinquish the shirt easily when his time comes. However, the one player we know can improve us when fit and firing is Carvalho. I think he will initially provide cameos of quality from the bench whilst getting back up to speed, but when it comes to starting him, I have no clue. No 10 role, drifting in from wide or as part of midfield 3? The 6ft crowd in middle of midfield have been good in all their games, so I will leave SL with that conundrum to solve.

Others who may have a shout as injuries kick in, Jenkinson, Milo, Figgy, Benolouene, plus the young lads Appiah and Johnson and the new centre back.

Bostock will I am sure have a part to play, but without being too critical, has not done anything in his career so far nor in his (albeit rusty) appearance in the cup, to have so many people clamouring for his inclusion on some forums as if he is the reincarnation of Claude Makelele.

Aside from those mentioned, I don't see many others (if any) getting much game time other than if we have an injury crisis.

Best team? For now the one that played on Saturday, beyond that no clue. Lolley and Grabban plus 9 from the rest... :)

I think the first names on the team sheet are:
Dawson, Worrall, Watson, Lolley, & Grabban.
The rest are as per tactical/performance/rotational needs

I'd add Muric to that list, much to my frustration.

I like this game, best team now assuming we play the same formation:

Samba
Cash Worrall Dawson Robinson
Carvalho Sow Semedo
Lolley Grabban ameobi

Unconvinced by the carvalho part, really not sure how the manager will use him in urgent tactics yet. I do think we’d be better with Samba in goal but hopefully a clean sheet however little impact he had on it will help his confidence. He did do one mammoth throw on Saturday Muric!

He also passed a straightforward ball intended for Watson to the attacker!

Wasnt at the game myself so I might be being unfair but the guy puts the willies up me.

I personally don’t think there is an actual best starting eleven in this day and age. It’s all about who you’re facing on the day regarding who actually starts.

Saying that I still think your defence and at least one holding midfielder should mostly stay the same.
