Took one in the face yesterday and seemed to come out for balls a bit more aggressively- steady improvement for me and not a priority position to strengthen.

Yes being coached better, last season he was everything we asked for. Commanded his box came for crosses, decent shot stopper. Then all those seem to disappear, this season. But since mon has come in he's coming off his line collecting crosses, doing a damn fine job. Unlucky if you ask me for the goal. Pleased we backed him and chanted him, this is the time we support our players give them confidence to help then perform better.

McDonagh, came in with Martin, worked with him with Sunderland & the ROI team, but before that had a spell here on the coaching staff, as he's also done at Mansfield & amongst his playing clubs was that funny club on the other side of the river & in the closing days of his playing career the mighty Arnold Town, so whilst a Yorkshire man he knows the club, area & gaffer.

Completely disagree with this, not denying the penalty doubles save wasn’t good. However if that hadn’t happened he’d be being slated by everyone right now. He pushed their goal straight in, he was well positioned and it was a simple save. Obviously forgivable if it’s your first mistake however he let easy goals in against Leeds and Norwich (to name a few I can remember off the top of my head).

Even today there was one moment where the ball rolled across the box and he could’ve got to it but was too slow and their striker did (luckily their man slipped as he was about to score)

My point is not to be negative just don’t want people to suddenly decide based on one penalty save that he’s a changed player. Personally would still be a priority for me

We had the best and worst of Pants yesterday.

He's definitely being coached better.

Keeper...could have done better with the goal conceded.

But fair play. The double penalty save. Priceless.

Unless something compelling comes up...there are more pressing areas where Forest just don't have the players....or ANY cover.

LB. CH. ACM. Striker. (Balance. Set Pieces dominance. Box to Box Guile. Match winning pace. These are the things that '1 note' Forest just don't have. And shuffling the deck of samey players won't get it. They HAVE to bring it in.)

Those are the four areas where Forest's options are limited. Where Forest just don't have it or don't have much of it. And where Martin's greatest chances of getting a 'Plan B' together lay.

By comparison, the keeper is a less priority. With two decent CHs in front of him, Pants will look better.

This/\ pants has been with us a year now and for me he has had a couple of months dip in form and has come out the other side. Show me a Keeper that makes less than half a dozen costly mistakes a season and I will show you Jack Butland or a Prem keeper.  Keepers I have admired last year are having much worse seasons than Pants. E.g. Archer at Millwall and Bentley at Brentford. What about that clown at Leeds? The sheep's ex England keeper has been fairly meh so far. Westwood back in the side has dropped a couple of clangers already. My point is, this weird obsession that our players have to be perfect or in top form for 46 games is so unrealistic. Yes, Pants dropped a clanger yesterday, but he made up for it and it hasn't cost us. 

Final point on this slightly rantly post: we are not Man City, indeed, we are not yet even close to Norwich City at the moment. All this stuff about the importance of his distribution is so exaggerated. Save most of your shots, claim or clear crosses that you can realistically get too and clear the f@@@er away from danger area whenever you need to. That is not advocating hoof ball. Shilts, HVB, Soots, Segars and Crossley did that and would have found themselves on the sidelines pretty sharpish if they thought they should be passing the ball like Webby. The game may have changed, especially at the top level, but not that much! The Championship as we should know is a long way from top level, so for me, Pants is a decent keeper for this level.

I'll stick with my original view, yes we can & should be looking for better (which should actually be true about every position ever, until you have the best possible), but top, top keepers are as rare as hens teeth so we should be patient until the right one is available & Pantilimon is adequate cover until then.

Agree about the distribution aspect completely when did this suddenly become the yardstick to judge keepers as opposed to actual shot stopping and consistency. Jordan smith got screwed by this mentality when he wasn’t an excellent shot stopper and was pretty consistent at the beginning.

I agree every keeper makes mistakes but my point was pants has made a number of critical mistakes that in my opinion have cost us important points. Without going through every game certainly Norwich and Millwall cost us points. Even his first game when he joined he cost us a point away at Fulham by letting one through his hands. I think he makes a disproportionate amount of mistakes and would still be prioritising this position after centre back.

However it’s also difficult to get a good keeper in Jan window so might have to wait till summer.
