Can Footballers be made redundant?

No, to make someone redundant you need for their role to no longer exist. Which is obviously not possible for a player unless the club weren't playing matches. I think the contracts are pretty tight anyway bit imagine it'll be something tested in League 1 and below if they cant play next season.

I believe that is currently being worked on Wassy although I think massive wage cut is too strong a word.

It's something that has already been agreed and done at Olympiakos.

We received £8m odd from matchday revenue, plus another 5-10m from various commercial opportunities that are unlikely to exist. For a club that already made a £25m loss last season and with it being likely that transfer fees will not be an option, we will need to cut pretty drastically.

Some of this may be offset by increased revenue from matches on ifollow or elsewhere but without crowds we and every other club at our level are screwed! Nust hope the big man is willing to foot the bill. 

Such a bad time for a player to be out of contract, going to seriously struggle to get a new deal anywhere. Would imagine most teams looking to use the academy and players under contract they cant get rid of going forward.

Frustratingly I read somewhere theres a few teams that due to mis management have a lot of players out of contract, those will be the big winners as they can sweep up the free players on massively reduced wages.

You are basing your comment on 60 minutes against Charlton aren't you? A night when the whole team was S**t not just Bong so why signal him out? No right minded person jumps to a conclusion about a player after just 60 minutes especially one who has played 51 games in the PL recently.

I've seen him play a few times... but since you mentioned it that performance was up there with one or two of the other duds we've had recently. It happens.

There are four main changes to contractual regulations that clubs have agreed to and they are likely to most affect sides in the Championship, at this moment in time.

The first one is that clubs cannot approach players whose contracts expire on June 30 until June 24.

Clubs now also have until June 23 to offer players a new contract or release them.

And in the event that fixtures will continue past June 30, players out of contract on that date will be able to sign a short-term extension which will run until the 2019/20 season is completed.

Really done well for us. Could do with getting more goals though as an attacking player. He has deserved a new contract and think another year is fair.

Be great if we could get him, Dawson & Sabri tied up with new contracts before the re-start next week. It would really galvanise us and give us momentum.
