The reason we are too static and have been for ages is our central dynamic has been too slow on the ball, too deep positionally and not quick enough on the break to catch teams out.
Our problem lies with holding onto the ball too long and being too sideways, backwards and slow in coming forward leaving us short of options and allowing the opposition to easily come back and nullify us.
We did best when we attacked quickly and caught teams out, we just don't do that anymore and until we do, we ain't going to get where we want to be.

Yes, would love to see that. My question mark would be Lolley on the right, if only we still had Cash!
But I come back to my point about the manager. Based on what I've read from his past clubs' fans, and his start here, that's too radical for him.
Maybe he would play those players, switching Lolley for a RB, but with the wide men each moving back a line, so more of a 5-4-1?
I’m not set on the personnel ( hence ‘or something similar - lots of options’ ) - more about system for me.

As I have said previously, I watched that documentary on ITV4 the other day about our Euro Cup winning sides and the way they broke, at speed, was a joy to behold!!
The only problem is we don't have any speedy CDM with any pace or nouce about them!!

I don’t necessarily feel it needs to be pace of running rather than pace of mind- knowing the out ball before it’s received. That may come with a settled side but most definitely too slow from too deep currently

Dawson in just because we still don’t look convincing defending set pieces. This is partly due to samba being far from convincing on crosses.
A lot is talked about formations. But whatever formation we look short of confidence on the ball. That’s why every player wants 5 or 6 touches before passing. Far to slow, something we need to correct.
I always remember Frank Clark saying they used to practice breaking up the pitch within 10 seconds, from one end to the other. Helps if you have collymore I suppose!

We know he's capable of ripping up this league, Knockaert too but it just ain't happening at the moment.

Freeman looks like he struggles with his weight- maybe the enforced stop in football meant he was one that REALLY needed a pre-season. He looks heavy and his movements are sluggish

Freeman looks a shadow of the player at qpr hes not a reid or tomlin who could still do it when carrying weight .

I think as a team tbh we aren't looking fit across the board.
A lot of players finding it hard to sustain play, closing etc.
Lack of fitness seems the issue.

Its a fair point but when Freeman has the ball he's not really creating much (bar a decent cross at Boro and his goal earlier in the season). That's not down to fitness?
