The disappointing thing wasn’t that Charlton scored but the fact we had no pattern of play and looked toothless and easy to defend against. Charlton scored a good goal - it happens. We were unlucky not to equalise straight after with Jenkinsons cross. But only creating x2 half chances from then on in was criminal to a limited team who hadn’t won away since august.

No one seems to have noticed the Charlton goal, it was superb and we had no chance once Lolley had been beaten to the ball.

 
To be fair it was a sh1t underhit pass.

Lyle Taylor played only his 17th game last night at this level-all this season. He has dropped right down the leagues (Non league and Scottish Div 1) to get to where he is now after not making the grade at Millwall. He is 29 and over the games we have played Charlton, has given our defence more problems than any other striker in this division - even Rhodes. His injury coincided with Charltons dramatic drop off. Anyone at the Valley in August were wary before last night's game. They will stay up largely because he is now fit.

Maybe a similar path will be trodden by Tyler? No substitute for experience.

I'd add Hogan to your list of potential loanees too. 

I was thinking about your point about not being in a stronger position next year. I agree. I'd also add that next year could be much harder in terms of the competition for promotion places. Watford, West Ham, Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton are all decent, well run clubs. 3 of them will be in the Championship next year. Stoke and the Sheep have failed to show up this season but will likely be good next year. And then there's either Fulham, Leeds or Brentford.
