Yes it does matter because it is yet another level of uncertainty and complexity along with VAR where it is unclear who is in charge.
The referee should make on field decisions with help from assistants but they should not be overruling and the clubs were told the level for intervention should be very high. VAR as we know does not intervene on yellow card decisions but it does in others which is confusing in itself.
The decision making process should be clear to all and applied evenly. It wasn’t yesterday even if the end result was the correct one.
As many are pointing out why did the 4th official get involved in this decision and not others? Why does the referee accept the 4th official view on some occasions and not others eg the infamous Liverpool drop ball decision that went against us last year? Its the inconsistency that’s maddening.
