To be fair I'm sure he said the same about calderwood playing him on the left wing. How many did he score after leaving us? What level did he play at for interest? A level higher than we have been for some time.
No wonder Hughton and Calderwood were a management duo for some time.
My recollection of those days is receding thank god but I can still vividly remember, and the memory will never leave me, when Holt failed to stop and control a ball played to him. It was typical 3rd division lack of quality. Since childhood most of my Forest experience had been watching Des Walker, Pearce, Webb, Clough Metgod, Collymore et al and at that one moment the true level to which the team had sunk was realised in my mind.
I wish mine would mate. Unfortunately all the scars and wounds are still open. Oh those days on the terrace with the players you mention and the Wembley trips are days I do not want too forget though.
At least you had those, I was old enough to follow intently just after we got relegated.
My peak moment as a Forest fan is Cheltenham going 2-1 against Doncaster to secure our promotion from League 1
Other big moments include:
- Avoiding relegation by winning on last day.
- Going top under Sabri and Psycho briefly.
- West Brom away under Billy.
Slim pickings though, we've not even had any cup runs really. Got to FA Cup 5th Round under Billy and he played a reserve team and we lost to Sheff U I believe when they were in league 1. Would've played Sheff Wed in QF too (might've been other way round).
So be grateful! :D
How the hell are you a Forest fan Wassy? My dad is a big fan so it's bred into me but for those who aren't, why have they bothered with all the heartache?
That old joke about wife's coming and going but your club is in your very being is so true and I often remind my wife of it at moments like last night when she questions why I bother investing emotionally in a S**t football team.
Likewise my Dad is a big fan and forced me to follow them to. We weren't even based in Nottingham either, was about half hour from Cambridge and there is just no-one decent around there. My two brothers switched to Liverpool and Arsenal but I stayed true! Good excuse to hang out with my Dad really.
Anyway, apologies for the life story, back on track, maybe I should send this to the manager to inspire him somehow...
