Surely ex Man City player Joe Hart wouldn’t have suggested no foul?
My take on it is annoying but I would prefer VAR scrapped regardless and in a non VAR world the goal probably stands.
Far more annoying was Dias’s 2nd yellow and the half dozen fouls by Gvardiol that went unpunished.
It was also Wayne Rooney on MOTD. MGW initiates contact to stop him jumping that's fine, he then tucks his leg to essentially drag him down and win a foul.
That's 2 ex players and VAR saying it
That’s two ex players with agendas.
Where - anywhere and by anybody in the media- has it been said that MGW locked his leg in to drag him down and win a foul?
The answer is nowhere because that’s not what MGW did. He was using his arm to stop the jump and both arm and leg to stop O’Reilly pushing-off from him to get half a yard of space to flick on at the near post.
Any other interpretation is disingenuous and simply wrong.
In a world where fouls simply aren’t given at corners, to imply Morgan did it to win one is beyond belief.
Also, ex players are mostly terrible referees and choose to say what they think should happen, not what the rules acrually say, particularly someone like Rooney.
There was one angle they showed on TNT where O'Reilly had his arms round him and then seemed to drag him down. I haven’t watched MOTD though.
Dyche isn't the kind of guy to come out swinging for refs and taking a fine unless he thought it was a bad one though.

It was very animated and not cordial.
It was cordial.
Pep was hugging him, I think it was a case of respect Pep has for him
It was ten yards in front of me and definitely not cordial.
Pep hugged him at the end to show no hard feelings but something more was going on.

For a start MOTD has a team of analysts writing this stuff, Rooney and co just read it out, its why Micah Richards usually looks confused, he hasn’t got a clue generally, Shearer is the only one who seems to understand what he’s saying. The analysts themselves just slow every move down and look for problems, as stated above you could literally rule out every goal scored at a set piece if you look hard enough.
My opinion is it probably wasn’t sufficient to rule out the goal VAR or not. I am however annoyed at the implication that MGW is trying to cheat because it’s clearly nonsense. To do that it a defensive situation in the hope it gets looked at retrospectively makes no sense whatsoever. MGW wants to block the ball simple as, there is nothing else in his mind, he is wrestled down but its the usual push and shove you get at set pieces. Cheating it is not.

The funny thing is that if MGW had stayed down the ball probably would have hit him and they probably wouldn't have scored.

The football authorities need to clamp down on this pulling and pushing in the penalty area somehow at corners. It bores me to death when a ref stops the corner being taken so he can lecture two players only for them to do exactly the same immediately afterwards. I dont know how it can be done but I'd start with an immediate booking for absolutely any shirt pull. Then maybe illegalise any contact at all with the keeper up until the ball is kicked at the corner.

You could put an arc / box around the keeper and no outfield player can enter it. Stop this pushing of the keeper for a start. Like a 2 yard box or something. Just can’t enter it on a corner / set piece.
Also sinbins. You’re a d@ck, go in the bin. I don’t particularly want to see players removed from play but if they’re going to be d@cks then take a break.
Very basic rule in life, if people aren’t punished they’ll take the p@ss. Society seems to have forgotten it, but it’s quite simple.

One proposed solution is saying that when ball is placed in quadrant it is 'in play' meaning any contact is a foul either way.

That might help.
