The 2019 Summer Clearout - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 07-02-2019

Of course this season is not over yet but I have already turned my thoughts to the summer (couldn't help it).

So, from the current squad who would you keep and who would you let go or try to cash in on?

There will be a few out of contract Pele, Wague, Boanatini, Byram, Colback, Janko, Goncalves, Ward and Henderson. (realise it's a bit early to judge one or two of them).

Clough and Vellios both have another year to run yet.

Looks like it will be another busy summer coming up...

I think we have the nucleus of a decent squad if we can add some quality to the following:

Pantillimon, Darikwa, Worrell, Milosevic, Figs, Benalouane, Robinson, Osborn, Yacob, Gueddy, Yates Cash, Appiah, Lolley, Carvalho, Grabban and Soudani.

RE: The Summer Clearout - wassy04 - 07-02-2019

Keep:
GK
Smith

Def
Worrell
Figs
Robinson

Mid
Yates
Appiah
Lolley
Carvalho
Colback
Yacob

Att
Grabban

Jury’s still out:
Milosevic Pele Wague benaloune Bonatini ansafarid

Everyone who I’ve left out I’m not fussed if we keep and if we want to improve I’d hope they aren’t in the first 11. I realise I’ve missed off Osborn/cash on that list, cash probably being a bit harsh on as he’s got a pretty good goal scoring record but he does have balance issues. I would definitely like to improve at RB/GK at a minimum

RE: The Summer Clearout - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 07-02-2019

Ansarifard will leave of that I am sure.

Interesting that you have left out Cash and Darikwa?

RE: The Summer Clearout - wassy04 - 07-02-2019

Yeah as I said above probably being harsh on Cash, I’m not saying we have to get rid but that I think that’s a position we can improve on. Darikwa is solid but unspectacular I think we can definitely improve there too.

I think we need to be objective but critical. We've had a lot of these players for years and they’ve struggled to get us to a decent level so I think that playa a part. I think sometimes people judge players ability for their one good performance and forget all their mediocre/bad ones. I think consistency of performance is really important

That's pretty much it.  Keep Cash as back up winger on bench.  Pants will probably be GK back up.  Geddy will probably be back up if we keep Pele (if he ends up being a revelation...)

We'll need better fullbacks, both sides.  A GK who can command and come claim/catch, RB, LB, (been 'soft' there for too long all season...)  Aim higher to have Jack and Dar as back ups.  Need a couple of pacey wingers.  4-5 quality (and fit...) prime time 25-29 year old players to replace the bucket (10+) load that will go out.

See how the 'new' CHs do.  May need a 'proven in this league' CH Captain style...

Basically, the defence needs another thorough sorting by building from the back this time instead of sticking a plaster on it with 'past it' or 'makeshifts...'

I didn't mention Dawson because sadly with his age and injuries I don't expect him to figure much next season.

I also didn't mention Bridcutt and Watson. I would look to sell them both.

Why'd you say that Sniff?

He's buggered off to play for Iran for a month so he cant say hes not been given a chance.

I'd figure they're out in the Summer.  Shame.  All 3 in their prime offer something.  Surprised Bridcutt didn't get the nod over Watson.  But both Aitor and MoN have passed Liam over.  Guess he's out.

Dawson.  Seems like he's finished, injury wise.  Thrashing him on the only decent run we had proved to incisive of our deeper defensive malaise.  You can't expect a 35 year Dawson and a 35 year old Watson to lead the charge vs younger, fitter more energetic players all season.  They should have been 'cover' to manage games out as late subs.  The right types.  Just not in their prime.  Sadly.

You get injuries or 'flat' performances following 'good' ones.

You're body starts to say, 'You can't do that 3 times a week...'  (football wise...)

Heard today that it's not working out for either party.

It will probably be nothing more than a 'business move' like Kapino.

Same applies to Hefele and Murphy.

I would love to get Colback signed if it is at all possible.

He knows the current management well, Roy gave him his break & was his mentor, if they stay it's 99% certain Colback will.

Thanks NG3.

That would be excellent.

Amen to that!

Colback.  Our player of the season.  Missed him vs Birmingham.
