Wow.  Devastating. A 16 player clear out. (A lot of contracts up this Summer.)  Brutal. But probably on point.  I winced reading the comments.  But it was fair enough.

Will 'Wraggy' stay in the Summer as a CH?  Maybe Pele as one of the CM..?

We don't need to keep relying on the likes of Ben "Ave it" Watson or Murphy up front. Yates shows you can play the youngsters, so lets see who can make the next step up.

That would help us work out what we need and who we can get rid of come the summer.

Decent post, Widdow.

SA.

I don't think managers have the luxury of being able to write of seasons prematurely.

Yes we should have used Ryan, & possibly others, earlier & yes we should have alternatives in mind for ageing players like Watson & Murphy etc., but these are things we should have been looking at last summer, not at the business end of the season.

It's one of the things I've been going on about for a long time, long term planning with regards to squad management & both recruitment & the integration of players from the academy, & with that in mind, if the play offs become mathematically impossible I'd expect to see the pace of experimentation increase, but for now we still have to balance getting results as well.

Aye.

Perhaps that is where the most recent recruit to backroom staff comes in?

If we’re to have the luxury of 6 full backs ( as per the suggestion ) I suggest that Preston & Richardson ( or Gabriel ) can fill 2 of those places.

I may well be influenced by the current crisis. It is 6 CB's though not FB's.

Yeah, the Carvalho one was tough to consider.
I've only made the suggestion based on the fact that he does not fit the formations that we've seen.
If MoN wants to go 4-2-3-1 next season then Carvalho would switch to keep.

I omitted him for the same reason as Colback, because neither are presently contracted to us beyond the end of the season, so I treated them as left in the summer, although I did mention I'd like to see Watson pen a contract.

As for Tyler, he's old enough in his career that he'll want an input into his future & so that will be entirely dependent on what both parties want & what's on offer.

Love the lad and wish him a long, successful career.
Would be delighted if MoN could give him an opportunity but I fear that boat has sailed.
He will have several suitors lined up, willing to give him a good contract, maybe even lower Championship teams.
The thing is we raked in 7 million for Brereton (great deal in hindsight, very disappointing at the time), will Tyler ever be worth that?
I think he will be moving on to new pastures.

I already mentioned it on page 2 of this thread a few days ago that it would be foolish to write off Soudani.

Give him a pre-season to get 100% fit and then we can judge him better.

Yes, which is why he didn't make my discarded list.

If people remember the summer I was perhaps the most cautious/negative person on this forum with regards Soudani, his purchase was a bit of a gamble & there was foreseeable questions over a possible increasing susceptibility to injuries, along side the fact that he's unproven at this level, & if I'd been manager, hand on heart, I probably wouldn't have sanctioned his purchase at that price & on those wages, however the past is the past & you can't change that & so he is here & with his current injury will probably be hard to shift in the summer, so we're probably "stuck with him" & therefore should focus on aiding his recovery & evaluating him next season.

I'm still not optimistic about his future but the best option is to stick & try to get something out of him to offset the costs, & we might yet be pleasantly surprised.

He only managed 8 games, most of those were probably sub's.
He never commanded a starting position in the line up.
2 knee injuries, 32 years old next season with very little experience in the Championship.
When we did see him play there was a lot of huff and puff but little else.

RE: The Summer Clearout - Paplane - 14-02-2019

All a bit harsh on Soudani IMO. No he couldnt get in the team ahead of Grabban but give the guy some slack, not many could. He got a bad injury - it happens in football. We didnt decide Britt was shite and a sicknote just because he smashed his knee up did we?

He might need to improve his all round game but he put the ball in the net when we were struggling at home to Reading. He's got something to offer.

Well we will certainly need more than one window to achieve that, I would imagine at least two if not three.

I was looking at the contracts for 2019/20 and a lot are up.  Another year-ish.  13 of those players above.

Forest's hierarchy probably anticipated this 'layoff' following a 'calculated' push.
